It was a team of destiny. In fact the 86 finals are one of my earliest memories. I always watched them after that. From 1987 until now. Minus a few years after the Dallas game 7 humiliation.

    *sniff*

What could have been. Maybe 3-4 titles (even against the Showtime Lakers and Bird/McHale Celtics) if injuries and cocaine hadn't flattened that team.

They only attempted 2 3's in that entire game.

    Mitchell Wiggins has a son.

He can avenge what the NBA did to his father

Thanks tinman for that clip. That was fun to watch. Samson & Dream working together was awesome! Wiggins & Lloyd's coke problems and Ralph's injuries killed a dynasty.

    tinman,

You need a box score that includes John Lucas, too.

I unfortunately cannot appreciate our 86 team as I have no idea of who these guys were except for:

    Akeem -GOAT
Sampson- Really Tall guy who beat the Lakers on a buzzer beater
    Ehlo - MJ victim

Reid and McCray are just names I know I am supposed to know.

    I am just being honest.

Sampson was a little more than a really tall guy. Great player, great talent, just so inconsistent.

McCray was the do-it-all type player. He was chosen #3 in the same draft as Sampson. A lot of fans wanted Houston to take Drexler. Mccray was traded for Otis Thorpe.

Reid for me, was more known for 1981 finals than in 1986. He had a bigger role in 1981 IIRC. It is good to know that in 1986, he played PG against Magic when we beat them in 5. They were about the same height.

just fwi for your trivia knowledge: That team had three #1 picks:

    Hakeem
    Sampson
Lucas (likely our best PG ever)

    McCray was a #3

    Lucas, Wiggins and Lloyd

What a loss. What a waste.

A dynasty undermined, not by Gods, but by the players themselves.

For me, its too sad to even speculate what could have been.

IMO would've been the best team ever if not for Sampson knee injuries and coke.

Devastating at all 5 positions plus deep 1 through 7, with NONE of the guys past their prime, and they could all play defense and were athletic:
    Akeem-GOAT or close
    Sampson-perennial all-star
    Wiggins-near all-star
    Lloyd-near all-star
    Lucas-all-star
    McCray-near-all-star (Parsons-type)
Reid-excellent role player, solid starter level

ZERO weaknesses. Outside shooting arguably their weakest area, but they could shoot plenty well enough.

Little remembered fact. Because John Lucas immediately went into rehab, the NBA let him back in mid season the next year -- 1987 -- and the Bucks snapped him up as their starting PG ... 17.5 pts / 6.7 apg as their 3rd leading scorer.

The beat the Barkley, Cheeks, Erving '87 team and took the defending Celtics to 7 games.
