Lol, I made the wager on who I thought was going to win the Eastern Conference in 2013 and it just so happened to be the team that was favored. Go to the first page of this thread and you'll see that I picked OKC to win the West last year (betting slip included) in March when the favorite at the time was San Antonio. Should I have picked the Bucks to win the East in 2013 because the odds were better? I placed the bet early enough that I got favorable odds. You should have done the same. Either way, win or lose, I'll post the betting slip.

What's the deal fellas? Going with or against Money Mayweather? Refs for tonights game are the same from the game 3 MIA blowout in Indi... not sure what that means, cause it wasn't much of a game so don't know how they'd call it if it were tight.

Game 7 referee Foster is the official who received 134 phone calls from disgraced referee Tim Donaghy between October 2006 and April 2007, as originally reported by FOX News.

That was the same period during which Donaghy admitted to betting on NBA games. The report said that Donaghy called Foster over 10 times more often than any other ref in that period.

Donaghy’s calls to Foster took place immediately before and after games Donaghy was officiating 54 times.

    an example:

The initial report showed the following call log from the day of Dec. 30, 2006:

    10:34 a.m. – Donaghy calls Foster.
    10:35 a.m. – Donaghy calls another referee.
10:36 a.m. – Donaghy calls [Thomas] Martino, the “middleman” between him and his bookie.
    10:39 a.m. – Donaghy calls Foster.
    5:15 p.m. – Donaghy calls Martino.
    5:23 p.m. – Donaghy calls Martino.
7 p.m. – Donaghy referees game between the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic. The Magic win in a rout, 97-68.
8 p.m. – Foster referees a game between the Toronto Raptors and the Memphis Grizzlies in Memphis. The Grizzlies win 110-104. Foster and Donaghy speak 12 minutes after the game.
11:27 p.m. – Foster and Donaghy speak for at least the fourth time of the day.
11:38 p.m. – Foster and Donaghy speak for at least the fifth time of the day.

The records also showed Donaghy making several calls to Foster on the days of games, generally for no more than two minutes.

The report also said that when Donaghy called Foster, he mostly used the phone that he dedicated to gambling-related phone calls, and the phone calls stopped abruptly when Donaghy said he stopped gambling.

    Uh-oh

Sorry for the late reply gentleman, but I'm on Indy +4 (1st half) and +7 for the game. I think Miami as a whole will play better than they did in game 6 (they can't play much worse), but I have very little faith in the scrub brigade. However, I do have faith that LBJ will carry his team to victory. I think Miami wins a relatively close one here.

I also have an even money futures bet on Miami to win the Eastern Conference.

There looks to be some late line movement in favor of Heat as spread has been bet up to Miami -7.5 at some places. Not sure what that means at this point, but depending on how the 1st half goes, I might make a play on the Heat to cover the 2nd half spread.

Tonight was a good night to bet on the Heat. I'm thinking of just taking the Spurs from now on and bet progressively.

Epic fail on my part. I wanted my futures bet to cash and get a little extra betting on the spread. I should have just not made any plays on the game. I didn't get the Floyd Mayweather news until it was too late. I could tell from the line movement once I got home that I was probably holding a couple of losing tickets. I figured Miami was going to win, but there's no way I thought the Pacers would get out-rebounded so bad. I thought Indy would keep it respectable. I also didn't think anybody outside of LBJ would score in the high teens or twenties for Miami. The Heat's defensive intensity was surprising as well. Miami winning the East and me cashing my futures bet more than made up for those two losses though.

I placed this bet a day or two after Miami won the championship last year, which is why I was able to get such favorable odds. Even money on Miami winning the East this year was probably the easiest bet I've ever made. Here's the betting slip...I covered the payout info since I haven't cashed it yet:

    Props to Money Mayweather:

Edit: I have no idea if that slip is legit or not.

I'm with you on this, but I can't believe the absolute majority of the public is on SA +5.5 and the line is still holding firm. I'll wait until the last second, because the line may go half a point lower if people continue hammering the Spurs at +5.5 . If I can get Heat -5 or even -4.5 after buying half a point, I'm going to be all over it. I also have another futures bet that's still alive.

Looks like it's holding firm at -5 online, and -5 or -5.5 in Vegas... you still on the same play?

Yes sir, I'm on the Heat -4.5 after buying half a point, but line movement seems to be favoring SA. I thought -6 or even -5.5 was a little too high so -4.5/-5 seems about right.

I'm thinking (hoping?) that the Spurs will be rusty and Miami will still be in rhythm. I understand where people are coming from when they say that the Spurs would welcome the rest, but 10 days or whatever is a long time and SA was playing their best bball of the season before they went on this extended break.

The Heat's defensive intensity in particular is something that I hope continues to be at the same level. That's going to be important in trying to contain Parker. If you can contain him, you win. I also like what I saw from some of the role players and D-Wade in game 7 against Indy.

Also, this is the biggest stage in basketball and everyone on Miami's team has experience in the Finals except for Birdman. Nobody outside of SA's big 3 has ever played in the Finals (Bonner was on the 2007 team but didn't play in the Finals against the Cavs). I think that experience is important, especially in game 1.

I feel that this is going to be a long series with each team possibly winning on the other's homecourt once with Miami taking it in 6 or 7.

    Any plays for you tonight?

Lol me too...I was initially going to stay away and make a play on game 2 based on what I saw in game 1, but the action junkie in me got the best of the situation. FWIW, most of the people I know are on the Spurs.

Turrible, just turrible. I thought the Heat overall played well other than their late-game execution which failed them. But San Antonio played a near flawless game imo as evidenced by only having 4 turnovers. So much for my rust angle. Both teams missed a lot of makeable, open shots though. Now the Spurs are playing with house money and game 2 is for all intents and purposes a must win for Miami.

People may look at the triple-double and think that LBJ played well, but he was too passive imo. He needs to attack before the double-team arrives and let the defense react as they're now in scramble mode. He was just waiting for the other defenders to arrive when he was in the post and would react instead of dictating the play. Also, if a double-team is coming, dribble away from it and then pass or shoot. This is something Kobe Bryant is excellent at doing. There's no way anybody on SA, including Leonard, can guard LeBron so he needs to impose his will on the game offensively.

I also thought the stretch where Battier was in the game was crucial. Heat could've stretched their lead, but Battier came in running around like a chicken with his head cut off jacking up shot after shot and bricking all of them. Somebody else should have been in the game...either Miller or Allen. This allowed SA to close the gap culminating in Duncan's buzzer beater before the half, which gave them the momentum.

I haven't been as sharp as I was earlier during the post-season, which means it's time for me to take a break for one or two games. I still have one futures bet that will be determined by the outcome of this series so I will have a stake in every game regardless. Congrats to those who had San Antonio.
