Ter Stegen is a fantastic goalie, but all his games for the national team, he has been horrible. Very odd . I guess that doesn't really bolster his case for a move to Barcelona...
It's understandable when a field player doesn't necessarily have the same success for their country as they do their club. A lot of times it's due to a completely different strategy and/or playing out of position. Messi was a perfect example (he's seemed to have corrected that by simply being a transcendent talent). But there's really no excuse for that when it comes to keepers. That whole series leading up to the own goal was just lunacy. You're a keeper. If you had any type of skill as a field player, you would be on the field. Quit trying to be something your not and keep the ball out of the net.
It was really pure slapstick. I mean, the ball was REALLY slow...what the hell was he even trying to do. If the pitch had been a bit soggy, that ball would not even have made it past the goal line...
Good win leading up to the games that really count. What German team was that, their C squad? I agree it was mostly on the goalie, but I would like to add that no defending player should shoot or even PASS in an angle that will potentially make the ball go into their own net, whether returning it to their own goalie or clearing it.
There's that famous swoly backhanded "compliment". It was 100% on the keeper. The pass was simple to handle. When there's even a modicum of pressure, don't think...don't do more than is needed...just clear the ball. It was obvious at that moment that the US forwards were pushing up to create pressure on the ball out of the back for Germany. There was no need at all for him to do anything other than clear it. Instead, he tried to be a central mid and he choked. You were right on one thing...no defender should ever shoot on his own goal. That would be bad.
GO JAMAICA !!! Let's get a close tight hard fought game tonight with a Jamaica victory......and wear them down Mexico so the US gets them on Friday. DD
leroy, I really didn't know many of the German players. I think I only saw Podolski named from their World Cup 2010 team. Y'all played a much better game than against Belgium. You can't hide that... and can't say that once they win a game they're perfect. Aren't they going to play against each other regardless of the outcome of the Jamaica game? LOL! You're actually cheering AGAINST Mexico, but want Mexico to wear them down? Nice.
Klose, Mertesacker (sp?) also. I honestly didn't see the game against Belgium so I can't really say...but I'll guess we did play better since, you know, we didn't lose 4-1. Thanks, Captain Obvious. I'm not sure where I said anything about a win meaning they're now perfect.
¡MÉ-XI-CO! [clap clap clap] ¡MÉ-XI-CO! [clap clap clap] ¡MÉ-XI-CO! [clap clap clap] ¡vamos, México! ¡A ganarle a Jamaica!
Good game by Mexico but we still can't finish as well as we could before. Chicharo isn't controlling the game as much and he is neither a threat anymore. Nonetheless, these three points put us in the lead and we have a chance to get even farther apart with a good showing against Costa Rica. I still will stick with my prediction that the Reggae Boyz will be third or even second place in this qualification phase. They showed tonight they got what it takes to get it.
always nice to play bad but still get 3 points. much improvement needed, but looks possible based on the # of chances created that weren't finished.
I really didnt like how Mexico played, but the important thing was to get the 3 points, and they did, so thats a good thing.
You mean the team that won 3 of its six games in the previous qualifying round? You mean the team that tied Mexico in Mexico for its first point ever there? You mean the team that was at home? You mean the team with its A team and not a bunch of scrubs playing against Mexico? That Jamaica team? I don't think it will go so well for you on Friday.
