Unless an opportunity for a third star presents itself, I would say just fill out the bench with whoever Morey thinks is best and can fit in the MLE etc. I'm pretty happy with this team + Dwight anyway, to be honest. Some kind of backup wing would be good.

Most PFs' 3 pointers are assisted on. They don't handle the ball that much, and stretch 4s are usually used to stretch the floor waiting for kick-outs or swing-passes. It's catch and shoot.

I would imagine 2Pat and MMorris's 3 pointers were mostly assisted on as well.

I think Morey will sacrifice Asik and future flexibility to acquire a pseudo-star like Smith, if Dwight comes.

I hope we don't get Dwight Howard, I may be the only one thinking this way, but I see him as a bad move, a step backwards...but I'm not Morey so we'll see...

Question is would people be happy with essentially a Lin/Asik trade for Josh Smith? If Howard was aboard first of course.

Exactly my point, 2pat's stats are pretty much the exact same. which means, He fits our offense.... right? stretching the floor and all.

Then add on the freak ability for a guy his size to run the floor, play excellent man defense, have the IQ/agility to play the defensive switch game like some of the best in the league, shotblock and rebound. What are we missing here?

I don't understand this form of thinking? LeBron is not walking through that door, who else of Howards skillset could we realistically get to improve us to contender status?

Dunleavy could be a nice stretch 4 and backup 3. I wonder how much he will command this offseason.

Hells yeah! A big rotation of Dwight, Josh & Jones is scary as hell. Potentially the best rim protecting, shot blocking, defensive trio you will see :) pair that with Beverley, Parsons, Brooks / FA & Garcia / Garcia type veteran and you have a solid 7 man rotation. Ow wait, we also still have Harden!! Instant contenders baby.

Dunleavy's worst season was playing at the 4 under Nelly. In the season where he averaged near 20ppg he played SG. His ideal position/role is probably backup SF but he's capable of covering both guard positions too.

I've always liked David West, but I bet his asking price is up there.

What kind of vet players could we sign for cheap to fill out our bench? Assuming we get Howard.

Bev, Jones, and maybe Motie are keepers for sure.

Should we sign O'Neal to be a back-up C? Will Garcia resign? Or should we pursue Captain Jack/Dunleavy to fill the void? What about Del3no?

I'd prefer not to trade Lin and Asik for Josh Smith. Should probably only be Asik & DMo. I still have hopes that Lin can provide all you need at the PG. Make sure that either Lin or Harden are on the floor at all times giving you a play maker. If you get Smith make sure that Smith or Howard are on the floor at all times giving you a big man to play pick and roll or pick and pop basketball. This gives you 2 plays you can always use over the full 48mins of a game (Post up or pick and roll).

As for FA possibilities, if Dwight comes AND we get Josh Smith, it would probably be Garcia on room exception, Delfino on vet min (because he will be injured for most of the season) and then whatever other decent vet FAs want to bandwagon toward a championship.

    Dwight/Jones/Aldemir
    J.Smith/G.Smith
    Parsons/Garcia/(second rounder will fit somewhere)
    Harden/Delfino
    Lin/Beverley

Only other spot to fill will be the PG backup insurance. I don't think Brooks comes back on vet minimum unless no one gives him a better offer.

Yes to Dunleavy if he was semi cheap. We need a shooter to come off of the bench.

That looks like a great team except Jones and Aldemir are not Back-up centers, neither is G.Smith for that matter. I really think we need a reliable back-up Center so we don't over rely on outside shooting.

Under your scenario, we may have to trade T-Jones for a true back-up center.

I know you explained your reasonings but I think its highly unlikely we get both Garcia and Delfino back. Maybe need to fill that spot with veteren 2-3 swingman. Or bring Anderson back?

I would then trade Asik for a young and talented power forward. Someone like Kenneth Faried, a 2nd round pick and junk contracts. I'd trade Lin for a nice pick, hope to land a solid pg at free agency and maybe have Beverly start

    Howard
    Faried
    Harden
    Parsons
    Someone/Beverly

If we get Dwight.........I would want to make room for Iggy or some type of wing defender.( going to need somebody to slow down teams best wings)

Dont sign a PF longterm( josh smith, milsap)We Let jones or mont. have a chance to work by Howard.

Have parsons come of the be bench to lead second unit(6th man of the year)

...... So we are also waiting for the better PF To become free agents( somebody worthy of a long term deal)

Would have to make trades, but a rotation of:

Howard/Asik and Harden/Iggy/Parsons would be legit
