Noway. Asik is probably the best rebounder in the league and at worst top 3 interior defender in the league.KG is turning AND IS NOT going to make us a contender.

Asiks trade value far exceeds KG at this point is his career.Asik could easily net us a an Aldridge in a right packiage.Almost all GM's in the league would love to have Asik as their starting center.

sorry. i reread my post when you quoted it. the last line of my post wasn't really in regards to asik for kg, but rather how good a fit kg would be with our current roster alongside asik. i can see how that's confusing since the threads premise is asik for kg, and i didn't word it like that all. my fault for confusion.

if we didn't get howard, then i wouldn't trade asik for kg either. if we did get howard, it'd be more interesting because kg is the optimal fit in the entire league.

I think the current situation is very different when we traded promising, young assets for Barkley. Hakeem and Clyde were in their sunset years, so at most they were for going for two chips, more realistic one.

Now, our team is young and just at at the onset of becoming something really special if Howard signs up with us. A young Asik, one of the best rebounders and rim protectors in the NBA for a very old, often injured KG is not very appealing to the future of this team, let alone the huge salary KG would extract from the Rocket's cap.

If we got Howard and most probably we will, I would look to packiage him in a deal for Josh Smith(Hawks would be all over it) or a LMA. Aldridge will probably leave Portland in 2014 and the Blazers are screaming for a Center like Asik.

well yea, if we could get someone like LMA, we'd obviously do that instead. im not a big fan of smoove, imo kg is like a smarter smoove with a much better jumper..but obviously his age is a concern, and he prob only has one more year left. so it'd be a short sighted move, aka something morey doesn't do. and asik has more value for that reason. i just kinda wanted to post that in terms of GAME and fit on our roster, kg's skill set is absolutely perfect.

Boston has to give us more. KG isn't a starter anymore.

I would do it as long as we keep at least one of our young PF's to play significant backup minutes and develop. KG can still play 20-30 excellent minutes, and we can pace his minutes as long as we are covered well at backup C (Greg Smith) and backup PF (one of the young guys). How fantastic would it be to have Garnett in Howard's ear and teaching some of the youngsters some tricks of the trade? How awesome would it be for Garnett to give Royce White some life lessons?

Not to mention it would open up the possibility of Pierce signing here for next to nothing. I can't imagine him going to a mediocre team, and I think he's well aware that he would not be a starter anywhere but the Lakers. Could be an excellent backup for us if he's focused on winning.

If the Lakers/Mavs could line up Garnett + Pierce ahead of us, then I worry that those places become more attractive to Howard.

We'd have an all jerk front court.

You mean aside from the fact that Garnett and Howard hate each other?

I don't think it was a serious trade proposal so much as an example to demonstrate Asik's trade value. KG is a prime example of a player who in the last few years has been untouchable in trades, but the answer to "who says no" here isn't Boston or KG himself. It's Houston.

Oops, didn't know that. I wonder if they'd be willing to put it behind them for a ring? Garnett seems to be bipolar in his treatment of teammates vs non-teammates (see: Ray Allen).

Asik for KG? No, I didn't vote because the no option is insulting to a future hall of famer but it is still a no.

The Boston front office would run over their grandmothers to make this deal happen. A good sign that it's a bad deal.

Remember that thread "Who is the leader of the Rockets?" With KG, there will be a clear and obvious answer. For better or for worse.

KG was a great player. But, he's 37. Asik is 26. Harden is 24. Howard is 27. Parsons is 24. One of these things is not like the others. At his age, he should be like the Rockets-era Mutombo, giving good quality starter minutes that aren't too hard on the pocket-book. If we were talking about picking him up as an FA for an exception, sure. I can see the value of having a vet like KG to bring the experience and then hand the reins to a younger guy in a couple of years. But, I'd rather that veteran not be quite so... veteran.

KG is just too old. He's got to break down soon. Any older guys like that we sign should be role player/backup types. Relying on really old guys to be all stars is doomed to failure.

Rox get a bona fide perimeter defender, a point guard to can match up with CP3, Westbrook, and Tony Parker +
consistent scoring punch off the bench.

Celtics get a young starting center and an offensive point guard to pair up with a defensive minded Avery Bradley +
    Ainge owes Mchale one. :p

Honestly I could see us trading Asik for Pau Gasol presuming we got Howard of course, before KG.
