Let me paint a scenario here that has me a bit concerned with regards to the Rockets pursuit of Dwight Howard. (and let me point out, at this point I am currently cautiously optimistic about the Rockets chances of landing DH12). But…. Miami Heat lose to the Pacers OR lose to the Spurs in the Finals. Miami concedes they need better rebounding and post defense. They know that BOSH is their only asset to move to acquire a talent. The Lakers are afraid of lose Dwight to Houston/Dallas etc. People whisper in Dwight's ear how great it would be to play with Lebron James. Remember, for Dwight, its all about winning in the future. Dwight comes back to the Lakers and asks for a sign and trade to the Heat in exchange for Bosh OR DH leaves to go somewhere else. Lakers gladly take Bosh to pair with Gasol and Kobe knowing they will lose DH for nothing. Lebron, Wade & Dwight are teammates in Miami. Houston is left out in the cold. Tell me I shouldn't be worried about this scenario.
what really scares me is the idea of the lakers amnestying kobe and signing chris paul while keeping dwight
Bosh's crap play sure helps our cause in this scenerio. I don't think LA would touch Bosh. Pairing him with Gasol? LOL
Miami is over the salary cap and the S&T limit which is $4mil over the cap. They cannot receive players in a sign and trade that puts keeps them at that level which Howard would.
It could be done. Amnesty Mike Miller and send James Jones and Norris Cole out with Bosh. Gets Miami under the apron. And no S&T players going back to LA.
I hate you. I think that works haha. Not sure if LAL would be willing to take those players, but I mean, if the alternative is Dwight leaving to Houston...maybe they agree. Funny though because if LAL's endgame is 2014 LBJ, it'd be repairing Bosh with LBJ hahaha.
No it would not unless Ray Allen declines his player option and they don't pick up the option on Chalmers. They would still have cap holds for the rest of their roster and they would be taking back 1.5 Mil more with Howard than Bosh.
I just don't see the Lakers doing that, even if it were feasible under the cap. Bosh turns 30 next year and is over three years removed from playing at an All-Star level. Right now, he's a finesse, outside-shooting 16 and 8 big guy... and he has over $60 million committed to him for the next three years. If the Lakers lose Dwight, they need to rebuild, which means maximum flexibility. Kupchak is fairly sharp, and committing over $20 million/year to Chris Bosh in their situation isn't something that seems wise. Also, another underrated factor to LA's situation is the luxury tax. If Dwight stays, you're looking at a luxury tax impact of almost $50 million next season just for him alone... unless you amnesty Pau or trade him into available cap space. If the Lakers trade Dwight anywhere and bring back that value, they're in the exact same financial situation, only with a substantially worse basketball team! Either Buss would be footing an incredible tax bill next year for a mediocre team of Gasol, Bosh and an injured Kobe... or he'd have to amnesty Pau, which would seem to make a Bosh acquisition pointless (since they'd admittedly be rebuilding). Folks keep drawing S&T scenarios for the Lakers thinking that LA won't want to "lose him for nothing", but in all honestly, Dwight walking is better for that franchise (both tax-wise, and in rebuilding) than many of the proposals. There are a few possibilities that might work for LA, but I doubt that Bosh is one of them.
I think that's why LAL wouldn't do the trade actually. Because Lebron and Dwight in Miami??? Lebron wouldn't go anywhere for sure then. LA would be locking themselves out of the possibility of Lebron. But LAL would probably offer up Pau for Bosh. And Miami might take him in a quick rebuild. By the way, if I were a betting man, I'd bet on Bosh having a huge game 7 tonight.
Sigh. The Lakers still do not have anywhere close to the cap room ($19 million) to sign Chris Paul, even if they amnesty Kobe. In fact, they'd still be over the cap, given Dwight's hold.
We have wasted way too much breath detailing why this Laker pipe dream is fiscally impossible. At this point if you continue to be rendered afraid by such lies that you yourself are perpetrating, then we'll just have to let you wallow under the fear of your own stupidity. It cannot happen.
I know it won't happen but is it possible for Miami to amnesty Wade or Bosh and sign Dwight outright ?
Can we just make one Dwight howard scenario thread instead of having 15 diff threads all what ifs about him?
No. The Heat have $85 million in committed salaries for next year. To sign Dwight outright, you'd have to be at $38 million or lower, which means the Heat would have to shed $47 million. That seems unlikely.
