So are players required to go to post game conferences? If not, I would never go do to the fact you don't know what is finable and what could cost you money. Even if you do know, you might want to skip it anyways b/c you could always slip up. I never would have thought "no homo" as a fineable offense. What if he said "no homosexual" is that fineable. And to the person that said queer was a probably a fineable offense, I think you could pull up a fairly recent show "Queer Eye for the Straight guy" of an example of why it shouldn't be. This also brings up the fried chicken comment, you should also probably rule out any reference to food as that could be offensive.
Not a big deal at all. People are way too sensitive and he obviously didn't say it in a derogatory manner.
Given the effort Stern has put in to make the NBA appear as corporate and polished as possible (e.g., with the dress code) it is not much of a surprise that "mfers" and "stretch me out... no homo" would result in a backlash, especially with all the world's media watching.
I wonder what would happen if all the black players purposely talk super ghetto and go full Ebonics on press conferences without cursing. PR nightmare? Because they can't fine them without appearing racist.
This reminds me of Luis Suarez - Patrice Evra incident.....lame.... http://liverpoolfc.wikia.com/wiki/Luis_Suarez-Patrice_Evra_Incident
Ebonics is unprofessional language. They can and will fine players if it goes too far. Can your boss fire you if you speak with customers in full Ebonics? Yes
I'm not sure he could if me and my peers were so important to the business that we drew 50% of the revenue as salary, and we had a strong union that will bring the lawyers for every controversial discipline measure.
That's how I feel about it, who says that...anymore...kids in high school and overgrown children who are so insecure that they'll believe that people will think their gay, if they say something... that's COMPLETELY gay.
Saying "no homo" just makes you sound insecure at best. At worst, it's derogatory to homosexuals, as in it's not ok/not cool to be gay. If you don't think it is offensive, how does this sound to you? Man, I love Little Wayne, no negro.
Give him his $75k fine Stern: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/M8D4oKMOPcQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
