The Lakers aren't allowed to talk to Dwight yet about free agency either, the rules are no one is allowed to until July 1, how it usually works is the team can talk about an extension during the year to get all the "hypotheticals", but once the extension period passed, they can't do that either.

If 58.5 is the number, clearing Trob salary is enough to sign howard with thw max?

I think we would need to dump more unfortunately. I could be wrong though.

We'd need to dump someone Ohlbrecht, Anderson, maybe Smith (to the cap hold), Dwight's max would be about $1m over.

Of course we could always pay someone money and a draft pick (or two) to take White.

I'm surprise we haven't let Ohlbrecht go already.

If cap is that low, then we would have to dump more :( We'd have to pay someone to take White off our hands and then sign some min players to get to the 12 man roster. As of now, if $58.5M, moving TRob gives us a 10 man roster (one player being the min $490k). We would need another $1M cleared as there are two $490k capholds via min roster requirements :X I sure hope it goes up to $60M.

The problem with waiving and stretching White is that his final guaranteed year (this year) of $1.7m is stretched over 3 years. In addition we have a cap hold of $500k for his vacant roster spot.

    So we save about $1.1m - $500k = $600k

Best to ask Howard to shave $600k off his max salary. Surely he would do that.

I don't want White's $1.7m stretched over the next 3 seasons!!! Not worth it for so little money. Get him off the books at the end of this season!!!

You didn't adjust Harden's salary up and you didn't account for Smith's $440k and change guarantee. Smith is 50% guaranteed next season. So you'll have to trade him somewhere.

Ouch, so we really would have to either pay someone to take White off our hands or have someone take Smith. Harden's increased salary on a $58.5M cap, I imagine, would still fit into the room we have right? If so, I hope we can just convince Dwight to take a small pay cut so we can keep GSmith outright.

    one thing fd, Harden's salary is 23.52% of the salary cap next year (technically it's 25% * 42.14/44.74 = $13,775,089) if there's a 58.5 million cap.

The Rockets need unguaranteed contracts they can trade during free agency.

If Dwight is signed, it's their only hope of adding another big piece (eg, JSmoove) or just pieces greater than the room exception (max 2.6 million/yr for 2yrs).

Mouse over names for contract details

Smith's contract is fully unguaranteed next season which is his final year.
