No, its not true. What true is the Lakers cant accept a S/T player in return.

    Chris Mannix:

Will fleeing to Texas tarnish Dwight's brand?

Yes, because Dwight can't flee 2 cities in 2 years and expect it not to cripple. Dwight will forever stain his image. He can go, he may win championships, but he will always be the 2nd dog to James Harden. He stays in LA, helps rebuild LA, he can still be [seen as] that guy(image won't hurt).

    Does he leave?

I still think Dwight, because of that 5th year, and it is LA, and he likes living in LA, and part of his ego, he will stay for the long term.

Again, the 5th year **** we always hear about.

REPORTERS/"ANALYSTS", THAT FIFTH YEAR IS BARELY USED AND HE WILL MAKE MORE IN HOUSTON ANYWAY.

    Thank you.

    Who's Chris Mannix?

    Seems like a Laker homer.
These people always cite lifestyle as the reason. They got NO BASKETBALL reasons for Dwight to stay in LA. Dwight has always said its about success, which team has the best system for him and offers him the best chance to win a championship.

    Sigh.

I wish reporters would relinquish their desire for narratives and objectively analyze situations. This is the same reason so many were surprised when LeBron went to Miami three years ago. We heard how it was Wade's team, how it would ruin his legacy, etc. Funny thing: when the team won a title, none of that mattered.

The only "image" that's ruined by Dwight moving to Houston is in the columns penned on July 11. Going forward, and at the end of Dwight's career, no one will give a **** if he saved the Lakers from being terrible and kept them in the 5th-8th seed range for the rest of this decade. If he, as one of the team's best players, helps lead the Rockets to a title and plays in numerous late May and June games? That'll be remembered, regardless of whether it's his 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team or whatever.

Clowns like Mannix have an overinflated sense of self and think they're trying to "save" Dwight. In reality, the columns they write in mid-July just aren't that important, much like they weren't in LeBron's case three years ago. The wins in June are. Dwight gets it. Mannix doesn't.

More of the same from Kurt Helin - ProBasketballTalk (11:34)

Dwight Howard - how legitimate is the interest?

I think it's legitimate. My warning to Houston fans: be careful about all the rumors around him. That's the leakiest group. The Lakers do not leak much. I think there is a genuine interest. He wants to have his moment of having the ring kissed and having teams recruit him. He's so indecisive. I still think the Lakers are still the front runners because they have more guaranteed money, he likes living in LA, but there is a clear interest in Houston. If he's going to leave, Houston is the perfect landing spot, on and off the court. You can sell the no tax thing but more than that, he needs to win to change his image and legacy. He has to win titles. Houston, with Harden, you're a tweak or two away from contending. You get him, you're in the discussion. You're in that mix. It's legit but I find him wildly hard to predict.

    Why the anger!!!

I got no proof. But I listen to local sports talk every morning driving to work and thats what local reporters are reporting, from two different sports talk radios. I think that means something, are you listen to LA sports talk everyday?

If you still don't believe...fine. Believe what you want to believe.

i agree with this. we are the best option for him...but if anything we've seen from dwight these past two seasons...he's completely unpredictable because hes so damn indecisive. and he's also very sensitive to criticism. who knows, he might even think the outlash will be too great to leave la. tho like lebron, everything is forgotten if you win. winning is the key, and we have that for him. let's see if that's what he truly wants. i wish it was july.

This sounds like the same BS that we heard about Lebron went he went to Miami. He's tarnished his legacy by join the super friends, it will always be Wade's team, he'll never be considered the greatest of all time now, etc. Two finals appearances, a championship ring, and two MVP awards later Lebron's brand seems to be stronger than ever.

Who says Dwight cares about his image more than winning championships, anyway? He's said several times recently that winning is priority. If he wanted to be the man on a team full of washed up has been's, he would have stayed in Orlando.

Not LA, but I live in Orange County and listen to LA radio and Houston sports radio on iheart. You said you live in SoCal and that Dwight and the lakers weren't talking. I'm not angry, I just don't want you to be confused with an insider as your statement made it seem as such. Relax

Excellent job keeping up with the news in this thread, J.R.! I've had very mixed feelings about Dwight coming to Houston, mostly due to concerns about his health going forward, and his apparent immaturity at times during his career, but I've come around. My imagination is currently filled with images of James, Dwight, Chandler, Jeremy, and Omer on billboards around H-Town. That is truly a contending team, if healthy. To be so close to contending status with this one move, a huge move, to be sure, is enough to give me chills. I thought it'd be a few years yet before we'd be there, not as soon as this fall. Should the Rockets not end up with the guy now, after intensifying speculation pointing to a move by Dwight to Houston, would be a bitter disappointment. My appendages are crossed, despite making walking difficult, not to mention typing.

Let's keep our mojo working, people. No bad vibes, no bad juju, OK?

I said this in another thread, but honestly, Dwight was only indecisive one time -- in that hasty "opt in" on deadline morning in March 2012 when he freaked out amid the firestorm of criticism. And he seems to have learned from it.

With the exception of that one incident, he's actually been very decisive. The entire prolonged drama last summer was because Dwight wouldn't budge off his Brooklyn Nets request. That's who he wanted. Finally, after six weeks, he reached a compromise. But the constant drama wasn't because he couldn't make up his mind -- it was because his vision wasn't compatible with a scenario that worked for Orlando. He did have a vision and he stuck with it.

This summer, as a free agent... if Dwight's plan is to go to a team with cap room (Houston), nothing else matters. That's why I think the "indecisive" label is a little overblown.

Nope that's not what you originally said. Here's how it went down:

You said: I'm in LA and Dwight and the lakers aren't even talking

I then asked for proof. Is that unreasonable? Cool it, no reason to be defensive. If you can't handle people asking you where you got your info, then you shouldn't be posting.

Got it. I am thinking in terms of statistical probability instead of gambling odds. Thanks.

I do not agree with Mannix at all. Winning big erases a lot of bad memories. Case in point: LBJ, who just a couple of years ago was known as the "villain" of the NBA. Does anybody even remember?
