The max for Paul, Harden and Howard is about $53m, only $3m more than what you prescribe. I don't think asking Howard and Paul to take a $1.5m pay cut each matters that much in the scheme of things. We can still have a good bench with a total salary of $65m, that's only about $4m over the cap and about $10 million under the tax... very reasonable for 3 superstars and nothing like NY and Miami as you suggest. Here is my plan again: The cap has been estimated to be somewhere in the region of $58,044,000 (current) to $65,000,000. The latest opinion from capologist Larry Coon predicts the cap to be around $60mhttp://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-salary...rry-coon-52413 Let's work with a conservative salary cap estimate of $60 million. Houston cap room after waiving Garcia, Delfino, Brooks and Anderson 01) Harden 13,668,750 02) Asik 8,374,646 03) Lin 8,374,646 04) Robinson 3,526,440 05) White 1,719,480 06) Jones 1,551,840 07) Montiejunas 1,422,720 08) Parsons 926,500 09) G.Smith 884,293 10) Beverley 788,872 11) Cap Hold 490,180 12) 2nd Rounder 490,180 *Honeycut 100,000 Total = 42,318,547 Cap room = 17,681,453 Need to free extra 2,831,725 to give Dwight the max. *Honeycut has been waived but has a partial guarantee for 2013/14. How to free cap room to offer Howard the max Trade Robinson + White + $2,100,000 (cover White's contract) to ??? for future first round pick = $5,245,920 Cap hit with Howard onboard 01) Harden 13,668,750 02) Asik 8,374,646 03) Lin 8,374,646 04) Howard 20,513,178 05) Cap Hold 490,180 06) Jones 1,551,840 07) Montiejunas 1,422,720 08) Parsons 926,500 09) G.Smith 884,293 10) Beverley 788,872 11) Cap Hold 490,180 12) 2nd Rounder 490,180 *Honeycut 100,000 Total = $58,075,985 Trade for Chris Paul Chris Paul max contract is worth $19,136,250 This is difficult because we cannot sign Chris Paul without a Sign and Trade with the Clippers and there is no incentive for the Clippers to help us. Trade: Asik + Lin = $16,749,292 Chris Paul = $19,136,250 Cap Hit with Chris Paul onboard 01) Harden 13,668,750 02) Paul 19,136,250 03) Cap Hold 490,180 04) Howard 20,513,178 05) Cap Hold 490,180 06) Jones 1,551,840 07) Montiejunas 1,422,720 08) Parsons 926,500 09) G.Smith 884,293 10) Beverley 788,872 11) Cap Hold 490,180 12) 2nd Rounder 490,180 *Honeycut 100,000 Total = $60,462,943 Filling out the roster with role players Hopefully we can use the non-taxpayer MLE $5.150 million to sign either Garcia or Delfino back. I prefer Garcia if he's willing to come back for 3.6 million, leaving us $2.550 million we can still spend on a vet player like Hamilton? Vet min. exception to bring back Brooks at $1,352,181 (or split the MLE) Second Rounder should be a SG/SF swingman maybe on a similar contract to Beverley at $788,872 Same with Aldemir from Turkey $788,872 Final Roster 01) Harden 13,668,750 02) Paul 19,136,250 03) Brooks 1,352,181 04) Howard 20,513,178 05) Garcia 3,600,000 06) Jones 1,551,840 07) Montiejunas 1,422,720 08) Parsons 926,500 09) G.Smith 884,293 10) Beverley 788,872 11) Aldemir 788,872 12) 2nd Rounder (SG/SF) 788,872 *Honeycut 100,000 Total = $65,522,328 Depth Chart Paul / Beverley / Brooks Harden / Garcia / 2nd Rounder Parsons / Garcia / 2nd Rounder Jones / Montiejunas / Aldemir Howard / G.Smith
Jones/Montijunas/Smith would have to make big strides to make this a good deal. Quite frankly, I rather not have Paul on this team. The way Harden plays, him and Paul would just not work and frankly, I rather keep Asik and Lin on board. I don't think Lin will be a star in this league, but I think he will continue to improve and will be better in the coming years. I really hope we don't go for 3 stars.
Actually, I'm with you. You see what I think is the most probable line-up in my sig. (not the best line-up). I'm just responding to the poster who said the BIG 3 would kill our bench or put us into the tax. I think Paul's play (ball dominance) and personality (dominating) would not match this team. I would rather keep Lin and Asik. However, I think Dwight is looking increasingly likely to come here and if Dwight comes, I think Paul would want to come as well. Question is... When Paul demands a sign and trade from the Clippers, what do they do? Say no and try to keep play with a disgruntled Paul, or acquiesce and take Asik and Lin?
Oops, just saw the thread. I don't think it deserves another thread since we already have this thread. That's why I put it in this one, that and I didn't know it was already posted.
If Chris Paul is traded there will most likely be more teams involved in the trade. Houston won't have to give up Lin, Asik AND Parsons.
Clippers have the leverage of saying NO we don't want Asik and Lin and let Paul walk. Where is Paul gonna go? He only wants to go to Houston to join Dwight or stay in LA. I guess they would try to work out a deal and if they can't then Paul just stays with the Clippers.
These so called media sources have set us up for another major heartbreak once this doesn't pan out. Keep expectations and excitement in check and anticipate the worst. One advantage us Rockets fans have is that we're so used to disappointments when it comes to chasing star free agents that nothing can possibly deter us at this point.
Just in case Morey's goal is to land both Dwight and CP3, the Lakers would be more open for an Asik-Lin S&T package than the Clippers, IMO. But first thing's first, you have to make BOTH of them commit to signing with Houston while taking a slight paycut from their max contracts in the process, i guess.
Please read the last couple of pages. We are discussing the situation of Paul wanting to come to make a big three in Houston. How would we force a sign and trade with the Clippers for Asik and Lin in that situation. This is a hypothetical situation.
Thanks for your first point about the Lakers. I guess their roster looks pretty bad so you're right. We already established one or two pages back that we can offer both Paul and Dwight the max as long as we sign and trade Asik and Lin for one of them.
Hey there Fair Dinkum. You forfeit your taxpayer & non taxpayer MLE to use your caproom. You'll only have access to the room MLE (2.6mil?) and the minimum salary to fill out the roster.
If we dont get dwight, we spent 16 months discussing this! Do you know how many man hours it would take to do that again, Stu!
chris paul's max salary is $18,668,429 but Harden would get 23.54% of any salary cap increase, so with a 60.5m cap, Harden would receive 14.246m
You can dream for that. This dude is full of it. Been on my ignore list for a week. This Dwightmare has brought two things to the BBS: -Terrible, terrible posters. -A boatload of "insiders". Everyone seems to be an insider nowadays.
