I guess we can't work out this trade. If we want to trade LAC including Delfino, it should be carried before 30/6. However since LAC will reach hard cap (luxury tax threshold), so trade will be failed due to 125% + 0.1mil rule. The only way to do this, is to pick up Delfino contract on 1/7 and expect LAC willing to trade with us. We can't get DH12 if LAC don't want to trade us coz Delfino 2013-2014 contracts worth 3mil!

First of all, you can't gain cap space just by waiving White. White, on the second year of his rookie contract for next season, already has his approx. $1.7 million salary guaranteed. The team has options for his third and fourth seasons, which are the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Plus, even if we clear White's salary off the books, it's immediately clear that we'll have enough space to absorb Dwight's "super max" contract unless the cap increases more than expected (above $60 million). That's why it's been reported that Morey's trying to trade TRob to clear space to sign Dwight outright.

Second, the part about Aldridge and Love is pure fantasy. The trade might work rules wise but you can be sure as hell it won't happen.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but unfortunately the information you provided is neither correct or helpful.

Miami needs people up front..... Asik, Robinson, ect. for Bosh

Probably would have to make more moves to fit bosh and Howard though huh?

If we trade Asik we def need a strong Backup Center not D Mo. Someone cheap like Sam Dalembert type. Then you trade Asik. I'd rather trade Lin and his $8M than Asik we could easily find another PG or another with that money and we already have 2 PGS. Center like Asik are hard to find makes him more valuable with the top 3 Reb/GM

    A couple of points:

Harden's salary is a percentage of the team's cap. We won't know Harden's actual salary until the new cap is set. If the cap goes up, then so does Harden's salary.

The team option players continue to count against the cap until they are resigned or renounced. So in order to get to the $38,418 number that you used you'll have to decline the team option on Ohlbrecht,Smith and Anderson.

That would leave you with 7 players under contract (White still hits the cap but isn't under contract any longer).

You'd have to include the "incomplete roster charge" cap hold for roster slots 9 though 12 (the 2nd round pick counts as the 8th roster spot).
    http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q14 .

That will use up just under $2M in cap space. So, now you're up over $40M in total salary.

If the cap goes up to $59M as shown in your example then even at $40M in payroll you don't quite have enough to offer Howard a full max deal. Once you add in the additional salary Harden will receive from the cap going up, they you're about $3M shy off offering a max deal.

Bima has a couple of great articles where he lays things out in detail:

    http://rockets.clutchfans.net/3586/houston-rockets-salary-cap-3/

    http://rockets.clutchfans.net/3883/francisco-garcia-rockets-keeping-all-options-open/

BTW According to Bima, we also still have a cap hold of $884,293 for Earl Boykins.

So this comes after the GM says we're going after the top 2 free agents?

    Hey aelliott,

I reviewed the link to the CBA FAQ you mentioned but regarding the cap hold regarding the incomplete roster charge, I failed to find where it mentioned the 2nd round pick counting against a roster spot. Only the 1st round picks count against the roster spot:

Can you elaborate on your take please?

I hate threads with miss leading titles. Your title sounds like it comes from a source, then I found out it is an idea, then I realize that there is a thread for trade ideas. Seriously EFF you for conning me into reading your idea, if this was done with class, and correctly I would of rep'd.

I like the idea of using the stretch provision on Royce White, will free up $1.1 million or so.

    A few things to consider:

    - T Honeycutt's cap hit next season will only be $100,000 not 1 million.
    - I have a hard time believing that Beverley won't be picked up so you can put him down as a guaranteed contract like you have Parsons.
    - T-Rob will most probably be traded for a cap exception and a future pick to free up cap space to make a run at Dwight. There is almost no chance that Love or LMA comes to the Rockets via trade unless something really bad happens to their teams. Keeping T-Rob around will cause 1 or 2 of our young PFs to remain on the bench which does nothing for their career or their value. Moving T-Rob leaves you with 2 young PFs (D-Mo and TJones) to battle for court time.

I think the first round pick counts against your cap as per the rookie scale. So a number one pick will count around $5m and a number 11 pick around $1.8m and so on. A second round pick only counts the minimum cap hold which is around $500,000

To get the salary cap to sign Dwight you have to renounce the full MLE and BAE. The only exception you will have available is to use the room exception.

Minny already has pekovic, he is. Good scorer and not a bad defender. It's another story if his body broke down.
Why portland trade LMA for asik? Having Lma is the sole reason why portland will want asik
