In one episode where Isla Fisher was playing the bagpipes I thought her t*** were gonna pop out of her shirt. I just was about to get the lube ready!
I just finished it last night. Overall I liked it but agree with the previous criticisms. It took a while to get going and I wasn't a big fan of the new style. I plan on watching it again because I know there was some stuff I missed.
'Arrested Development' Season Five: Netflix CEO Says He Wants Another Season Of 'Arrested Development' If Stars Are Willing
I'm sorry but it was just bad. I was one of the few who was watching it in 2003 when it was on the air and fell in love with it. I don't think I would have watched if it was at the quality and humor of this last season. Just a waste.
Can't help but think those getting mad about this season had unrealistic expectations going in. Expecting any show, much less one as brilliant as AD to just pick up right at the peak it left off at years later? Of course it can't measure up to that standard, even if they hadn't been hamstrung by the nature of these individual character focused episodes, the netflix production feel, actors aging, concepts aging etc. Even some of their signature comedic devices seem dated now, with other lower quality shows having since picked them up & run them into the ground (like all the sequences where the narrator directly contradicts a series of statements a character makes as if they were arguing before us, the show The Middle I think abuses that now). And lot of the callbacks seemed forced, where when you watch the first time what will be referenced in a future episode, it seems really arbitrary & not very relevant to what's going on in the current scene. They always seemed to fit in the first seasons, not shoved in there for the sole purpose of setting up a future reference. Lots of superfluous references to bits from the original seasons seemingly for cheap approval. Story ideas & jokes were strong but the writing didn't seem as snappy etc. So I can understand disappointment in that there were problems, and it could have been better, but just a waste? No way, it was still really good, especially compared to other shows, & not the impossibly high standard it had already set.
The first episode was slow but on the 4th and its picked up. There has been like a 5 year gap too btw, due to that turd Cera waiting so long so it's not going to just start like it picked up right where it left off
it started off pretty bad, but after episode 5 i believe, it really started to pick up. Overall it was a solid 8/10. Just had to get used to the new format, and to the fact that not everyone would be together. I'm just happy we got another season and I cracked up a lot during it!
Another link that might contain more info: http://tvline.com/2013/05/29/arrested-development-season-5-netflix-on-board/ Well, if more season are confirmed (plus a possible movie), I'm sure the entire cast of characters will clear their schedules to film more AD. To my knowledge, none of the cast is involved in any current TV shows or movies. Not sure of the other aspects of their lives, but yeah. The quality will be up to the old version's standards, should the majority of the entire cast dedicate their time to the show. In my opinion, they could do away with Maeby and George Mi...Harris though. The characters, back in 2003, were great because they provided a teenage perspective / angst for the show. Now that they're in college / in the real world, they're not as funny as the other members of the cast, and I can't think of plot lines that the other characters of the show can't take on. Granted, AD's fanbase is loyal, so I'm sure Cera and Shawkat won't be written out. But I think more screentime for Gob and Tobias is always welcome, in lieu of other characters.
Cera is the reason they took so long for another reason and he is so useless for the show now. Guy is just not a good actor.
That was just a rumor people ran with. Cera's said numerous times that he was in the same boat as the other actors. Everyone was on board, they just kept being told to expect a phone call with updates and wouldn't ever get the call year after year.
In the beginning with superbad and all his other projects thats what the issue was. Later on that might have been it though. Did Portia (Lindsey) get plastic surgery btw?
That Ellen...constantly putting people's self esteem down. If Portia was straight and with a man he'd never make her feel like that!
This series is different because it's meant or at least originally was to reintroduce the characters as a lead up to the movie. That said, I like it better than season 3. Season 4 being a Netflix series is quite telling that no one wanted to pick it up. The producers and fans got lucky Netflix started to produce original content.
The season was great. Of course it can't live up to the first three, but it was really good. The criticisms are bogus.
