I have a very difficult time with the suggestion that the United States of America is a "Christian" nation.

Bill Maher is a f***ing moron. When you find yourself agreeing with him, it's time to rethink your position. He makes me nervous being an atheist.

Anyway, yeah, Greenwald made him look like the b**** he is. So Maher just changed the subject because those facts ran counter to the narrative he prefers.

 

Are you telling me that sharia law doesn't dominate women and hate gays? Are you telling me that this is not preached by muslim teachers?

Yeah because once we have agreed with someone on one point we have to agree with every point he ever tries to make.

 

thats pretty ironic coming from Maher since (and I lean liberal more than conservative..) he is one of the most nauseating liberals out there.

 

I am uncomfortable with the topic because it can open the door to man possible problems..... but I don't think what you really get what Bill Maher is saying. He isn't talking about anything other than right NOW.... it doesn't matter why it is that way, or was that way in the past. Further, if anyone thinks that Maher is biased against Islam, I would point out that if he is biased against anything it is RELIGION. He has been very critical of Christianity and Judism in the past.

The real question is whether it materially matters at this point.

Does proper Catholicism teach to hate homosexuals? No

Does it agree with a homosexual lifestyle? No

Does not agreeing with something mean you hate it? No

It does matter why it is that way. 60 years ago, Muslim nations were for more secular and tried to emulate Western thinking. It wasn't like Islam has been in a perpetual state of fundamental fanaticism since the Middle Ages.

But let's say Maher's premise is followed through. What then? What happens after acknowledging that Muslim extremism has become an uncomfortable tool of fear? Do we declare more Wars on Terrorism? What could possibly be the solution when the root causes aren't explained simple enough for a pretentious blowhard like Maher to understand?

 

I understand that. Since he is talking about religion on both topics, isn't it a valid question to ask?
