That seems to contradict Larry Coon's FAQ: [rquoter]If a first round pick signs with a non-NBA team, his scale amount is excluded from the team salary on the date he signs his non-NBA contract or the first day of the regular season, whichever is later. The scale amount goes back onto the team salary on the following July 1 or when his non-NBA contract ends, whichever is earlier. In other words, these cap holds are removed for players playing outside the NBA, but only during the regular season. http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q50[/rquoter]
Mogey better be preparing his best rendition of I dreamed a dream to go along with the $300 ipad for a guy worth $100 million + before he goes to Dwight's door at midnight in his sexiest getup. YOU CAN'T GET PLAYED AGAIN MOGEY. Otherwise I'd hang on to Robinson and throw $15 mil at Bynum.
Don't look now but Broussard reporting Chris Paul pissed off at Clippers for indicting him in the firing of VDN. Like I said....I wouldn't be surprised if all the young power forwards are traded this off season.
Why should we be so quick to believe this after the trade deadline rumor about trading Terrence Jones for a #1 pick? There was never anything to that in my opinion. My suspicion is the Rockets want a specific player in this draft or just want to trade Robinson for a wing player because they have a log jam at the PF. You don't drive down his value by saying it is to create cap space as opposed to people believing he's a bust you just want to get rid of, even if that's true. At the very least, when a player hears his name in trade rumors it makes him work harder to prove himself because the team is basically saying we don't really think very highly of you. I think Morey is pretty sure Howard is going to stay in L.A. & he is just helping Fegan out to get on his good side. Also, if the Lakers pay Howard the max, that puts them in a worse position as far as what else they can do, so they won't be good & they might subsequently amnesty Gasol who the Rockets will try to get if they do. Last season, Howard said that he doesn't like playing an uptempo / running style so that should make Houston not an attractive situation to him.
That's all fine if Morey is dealing with only one other GM. More than likely, he's contacted several. If two of those GMs talk and discover their not the only suitor, they'd both know a leak wouldn't point back to any one particular person. Besides, everyone knows that people other than GMs get involved in trade talks: owners, assistant GMs, etc. Those guys don't work in a vacuum. I'm not saying Morey didn't let the info leak on purpose -- I'm just saying that's not necessarily the case.
Here's a link to my Howard and Chris Paul trade scenario I posted yesterday if you're interested: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=239213 Yes, there is a possibility we can get both if Clippers agree to a sign and trade for Lin and Asik... but why would they.
We can't get a 2013 first rounder because 1st rounders have cap holds. A first round draft pick has a guaranteed contract that will inevitably eat into our cap space, thus defeating the purpose of trading out TRob.
well if this isn't a sign that another forward will be traded I don't know what is. Since when does morey release what he is actually doing. He wouldn't! if you want a person's value to go down the shoot then market the heck out of it. this report is hot air! I suppose someone will attempt to recall a time when morey actually traded someone that he "marketed" then realize that there is only evidence of nothing ever happening the way it is reported to. For example; T jones is still on the team, Ppat isn't. besides, if he wanted to boost his value Dmo and Tjones would have been in the D league to end the season to clear room!
not surprised, thomas robinson is a good kid, but as a basketball player he has A LONG way to go. i dont know if he will ever live up to his hype/potential
Robinson's asset is his athletic/rebound ability. We see in the play-offs that 3 point shooters are necessary to space the floor. Without outside shooting, it doesn't matter if you have big men in the game (Grizzlies). Once DH signs there is no longer a need to develop a 4 like Trob, which is a costly process. Meanwhile it's a good time to sell TRob so someone else can spend the time/energy to develop him.
My speculation: Maybe Morey is looking to get in this draft mid-round 1st to draft this guy... http://nbadraft.net/players/giannis-adetokoubo Not sure, but maybe we stash him overseas for 1-2 years and let him develop. Doesn't that keep us from having a cap hold? Also his target could be ATL (2 1sts) and is losing JSmith.
