This is just Morey officially putting the For Sale sign up before the Draft. No doubt Les has grilled him about T-Rob just to make sure ditching him doesn't become another Lin fiasco. And, yeah, I think this is a positive sign that Morey feels pretty good about his chances of signing Dwight.
This adds nothing new to the thread, but it would be awesome if we got Dwight Howard without having to give up any of their core players, i.e., Parsons. What happens to Asik, though? Trade for a suitable PF?
A trade for a players from this year's draft would have be completed during free agency and only after Dwight has been signed. That is, if the aim is for a second major signing this free agency. Minus T-Rob = Cap room to sign Dwight outright. White, Jones, and every non-guranteed contract except for Parsons and Beverly = S&T or just trade for a contract up to 15.296,820 million. Lin, Beverly Harden Parsons JSmoove, DMo Howard, Asik This leaves the room exception, vet min, and min to fill out the rest of the roster. For future cap flexibility, eg salary room for Parsons and to get better support pieces on the Rockets bench or even a first round rookie the Rockets could then deal Lin or Asik.
The team would be lucky to get a 2nd rounder or a crappy future 1st from a good team with heavy protection. The Rockets don't have leverage given the salary situation and Robinson has played worthless basketball and showed little signs of potential.
Stromile Swift had all the tools, too. As did Tyrus Thomas. Hell, my garage has all the tools, but that doesn't mean I'll ever be able to assemble something that actually works worth a crap.
This is only a first option. Asik can be moved, Lin can be moved or just removed (strecth provision) or whatever Morey chooses. Robinson cost Morey NOTHING so he has no pressure to take any deal to get back what he lost.
Lin won't be waived and stretched. Better to send him in a package with Asik or PFs if you want to get rid of him. Other options also include any combination of Jones $1.5m D-Mo $1.4m White $1.7m + $2.1m cash allowance (basically paying teams to take him off our books)
TRob is soo small he is not 6’10 as listed seems more like a 6'8 to 6'9 type. if we could get someone like a D West type that man is a monster big. the Rockets PF look a bit small or skinny.
I wouldn't be surprised if Morey traded every one of these power forwards this off season. Not saying it's going to happen. I'm saying you have to consider everything. Wouldn't surprise if they were all gone or if we only had one of them left after this off season.
The Rockets leverage is this draft, Carl. Deeks tweeted a couple hours that if Robinson had stayed at KU he'd be the #1 pick in this draft. Look at the draft. Pick 9 in this draft is like pick 17 in last year's draft. That's the leverage.
They didn't need to sign an agreement with D-Mo as he was no longer counting against the team salary by the time the Rockets signed Dalembert and Parsons. D-Mo's salary stopped counting against the Rocket's cap once he signed to play for a team in the Polish League in September of 2011. Dalembert and Parson's weren't signed until the lockout ended in December of 2011.
So an international player who is still under contract with another team won't count against the cap? Hello Rudy Gobert?
