Burj. Jumeirah. It's really hot, so be aware. A lot of eateries are around, and definitely check out the shops.
Pretty pathetic that it is like that now(grew up there...early childhood)...And now as some folks say...It really is Vegas on Steroids...youll have a good time, but costs will be quite comparable to other large international cities...

Dubai earns the title of least charming city in the world, IMO. If you want to visit a Middle Eastern city, go to Beirut.
For me it's the restaurants. Indian, Sri Lankan, Iranian, Lebanese, etc, etc. If you are into experimenting with authentic cuisines from the region, Dubai is totally awesome. Other than that, the city has very little charm. Prepare to be disappointed.
Yes, for a mix of the old-and-new Middle East experience, Beirut is the place to be these days -- this is coming from both poor college students and ritzy girls serving their sugar daddies back in Dubai. Amazing food, too. Istanbul's also the hottest spot to visit in that area. Yeah I can't offer any more suggestions for Dubai other than what was mentioned already.
