No one will know what the cap is until July 7th or 8th. I'm sure the Rockets would like to have an agreement in principal with D12 before then since they can start negotiating on July 1.

I didn't expect this. It really didn't make a lot of sense to trade Patterson for a non-rotation guy whose apparently going to see this door after only a couple of months on the team. I guess we'll probably get a pick out of it, at least.
pretty smart i guess. let all the other competing teams know that we're prepared to offer max. reduces their ability to outbid, and maybe pushes someone out of the race (who thought they could outbid us). whether or not we actually get rid of t-rob isn't important yet. if we can threaten max, we can knock the other teams out, and maybe score him for cheaper.
Yeah.... That's not gonna happen. Robinson would be in the lottery this year if he entered the draft. Herrera is just butt hurt about the trade and his inflated ego needed to say something provocative. Robinson will probably get traded to a team like an Atlanta, Phoenix, or even a Toronto for a future pick, or at the worst a second rounder. The way I see it Robinson's salary almost equals dmo's and Terrence's COMBINED. This is a no brainer you'd rather have two promising forwards than one undersized promising forward.
I like this a lot. Trade him to an irrelevant team. I don't want this biting us back in the butt later on if he can become a good player on a rival team.
So much for him saying its safe to buy rockets players jerseys. I like TRob, feel bad for the guy. This is the definition of people giving up on u before u get a chance. Was hoping he could be another faried.
Charlotte's 2014 first round draft pick from Detroit Detroit’s 1st round pick to Charlotte protected for selection(s) 1-8 in 2014 or 1 in 2015 or unprotected in 2016 [Charlotte-Detroit, 06/26/2012] That would be a nice pick up if Charlotte would do it
So long TRob! Let's hope they have sensed some signs of Howard wanting to be in Houston. If we get Howard, it's definitely going to be win now mode. TRob is still raw and won't have much PT, especially if Asik isn't traded away. It's good for him to go to a building team where he can get plenty of PT to develop. If he has good work ethics I can become pretty good in maybe 3 years.
I don't think we want a 1st rounder in this year's draft for TRob, since that pick would count against the cap, thus deminishing the cap clearing effects of unloading TRob in the first place and requiring the team to make another move in order to clear enough space for Howard. Plus this draft sucks, so the rookie scale contracts everyone will be getting are not going to have the value they normally do.
Seriously? Asik is a defensive stud and has his moments on offense. For Leonard (who sucks) and the #10 pick in a horrible draft year? No thanks.
If (and I do admit this is by no means certain), but if we get a future 1st rounder in return for Robinson, then the PPat trade was a clear success. If we had not traded him we would be looking to move him right now in order to get cap space for acquiring Dwight (just like we are doing so with TRob), except a younger TRob with many years left on his rookie deal is a more tradeable piece than an older PPat with one year left on his contract (no way in heck we get a future 1st rounder for 1 year of Patterson). Plus, do not forget how much of an impact Garcia had on this team -- probably a bigger impact than Patterson would have, especially in the playoffs.
Probably no way we could get the Detroit pick...Jump shooter listed the protections a couple posts above an it's a really nice pick that's only top 1 protected in 2015 and then unprotected...Charlotte does have another future first rounder from Portland though (top 12 protected), which is probably more realistic and would be a nice deal for us imo.
