Houston has a very large middle and upper class Black population. It is not about the strip clubs, it is about a very favorable social climate. Heavenly Houston. Although nobody ever talks about it, UH is a microcosm of the City, it has one of the largest populations of international students of any university in the country. This has been the case for at least four decades.
I'm sure they say it behind closed doors especially since it was white people that labeled the NBA a thug league when the NFL is full of criminals.
I think free agents look for a city where they can do the tootsee roll without admonishment. Plus they hear about Timmy Chans and Frenchy's.
David Baumann @DavidBaumann33 1h "Honestly, at this point, I do think Dwight Howard will sign with the Houston Rockets," @AlexKennedyNBA just told us.
Coming from an Asian that has lived in Boston his whole life...you guys have no idea what you are talking about.
It's A LOT of stars that have houses in Houston also. "Get it started, Houston is my second home like James Harden" Drake... Also one of the best medical centers in the world. People come from all over to get treatment here.
We were also once the fattest city in the country, not too long ago. Which means thicker hunnies, na'mean?
dammit feels good to be a houstonian, cause real gms don't out bid themselves. real gms keep flexibility over the cap. and everything is cool in the mind of a maury.
I don't know what they teach you about the history of the U.S.A. in Australia, but even though the U.S. was founded by immigrants, there's also a long history of oppression, discrimination, land taken by force, etc. That history includes intolerance towards even other European immigrants (Irish, Polish, Italians, etc). Some would argue that calling the U.S. a "melting pot" is sugar coating it, and there's other terms to counter that including "salad bowl, which basically means it's not a true mix. Most people know about the conflict between Blacks vs Whites, but unless you specifically took a college level course about Hispanics and Asians or your instructor deliberately included that in the ed plan, most of the classes probably wouldn't go into much detail about those two groups. Remember Asians and Hispanics are very diverse with their own separate ethnic groups. Another thing, even if you were to refer to the U.S. as a melting pot, that applies to probably only some of the major cities. There's still Middle-America that some people overlook so overall it's not as diverse as we may think. If you're just looking at the Asian/Asian-American population, I'd give it a generous 7% in total. Everyone gets made fun of to a certain extent, but there are double-standards, which includes towards Whites. It all depends on what you look at, but I find the most ironic is when people decide to put their frustration or "jokes" out on the internet for everyone to see. Here are some against Asians. These are the response videos to the originals. <iframe width="590" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lOGpGoEMu2s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="590" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EWF85CXnLWM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The idea is that generally speaking, no major city in America is unwelcoming to white Americans, but some American cities can feel like an island to young blacks. Houston is not Salt Lake. Rose was raised in Detroit, do you think he enjoyed his time off the court more in Chicago or Indiana?
