Dwight loves our system. He got tired of banging down low and is ready to shoot three's from now on.

Imagine, Howard top of key left, and Asik top of the key right setting double picks for Harden with jlin and parson's at the corners.

He seems very limited in basketball IQ. It seems he wants the offense to run through him solely.

    That's what Ken Berger reported.

The Rockets have [...] Omer Asik, the kind of 7-footer Howard is believed to want next to him in the frontcourt.

Basically he likes the idea of going somewhere where he has a good amount of the dirty work load taken off of his plate and where he can have his career extended playing less minutes in the paint.

There are huge benefits from both sides, and its not a bad thing that Dwight is attracted to this scenario.

Its good from the Rockets POV because you really do want to extend Dwight's career as much as possible with a lighter minutes load.

From Dwights perspective, some people will take this as a selfish (I want to score alot of points as a PF), or Im too lazy to rebound anymore notion.

I personally dont see it that way. I think its just a great insurance policy where both big men can be utilized more sparingly where they can both be more fresh & healthy down the stretch of the season, and further down their careers.

    .............................................

As for the two of them playing together on court AT THE SAME TIME-

We have been down this road before. Both players on the court together right now isn't going to be pretty. Both players need to be in the painted area, and them both staying down low will drastically hurt the strength of this team right now... penetration from the perimeter players.

However, I do think Asik has a certain skill that could potentially land him in some sets IN THE FUTURE where you could play the two of them together.

Asik, I think has very good passing abilities, and I could see him improving enough to run sets where he comes out to the high post. However, right now, Asik is missing the offensive skill to force teams to come out and guard him outside the paint. Defenses would double Dwight & clog the paint, and force Asik to create a shot for himself.... He's not ready for that kind of responsibility right now.

    ..........................................

Back to the point of this thread- Yes, I think its a great selling point to Dwight to have Asik on this roster right now, and there are plenty of benefits to having two elite centers on your roster. Especially when you are about to invest 80+ million in one of these guys, its nice to know he's not going to get run down into the ground in year 1.

Asik and Dwight on the floor at the same time = horrible floor spacing.

I think the most attractive thing about Dwight playing with Asik is the fact we can afford to let Dwight rest alot, which would probably be a good idea if we want to lower the risk of back spasms developing.

Let me illustrate how significant the role of Dwight's backup is to me:

I would rather Aaron Brooks play those 10-15 minutes than to pay someone $7m for it.

Greg Smith is weak on defense and doesn't have range. He doesn't have the highest IQ. He is fully capable of being a backup to Howard for 10-15 minutes a game.

Omer Asik is probably the least compatible starting big man in the league to pair with Dwight Howard and Asik is paid well for his talents.

All we need at backup 5 is two low salary guys who can each do at least one thing well. Greg Smith can do that, despite his terrible performances playing out of position in his first taste of the playoffs.

a team with 2 bigs has more chance to be a contender:

    Bynum Gasol
    Chandler Dirk
    Perkins Garnett
    Splitter Duncun

One of then makes the dirty work (Bynum, Chandler, perk, Splitter) and the other has more opotunitty to be free to use his talent

The only Champioship team is the last years without two bigs is Miami

I like te Asik Howard combo with a lot of PF in the bench

I think Howard is just attracted to Asik. He doesn't care where or if he plays. So long as he can sit next to him on the team bus.

    that is all.

We played smith and asik together and it worked fine, why wouldn't it work for howard? Id actually would like them together. Yeah it would cause some craft from mchale on offense to make sure dwight and asik dont get in the way of harden on offense but i think the defense and rebounding is well, well worth it. Also like dobro said, asik would give dwight the luxury of resting, not only resting but resting without our D and rebounding becoming trash.

Maybe if we manage to get Dwight, Asik will be told to develop a 15 footer?

He definitely showed potential in game 5, and yes I know it was only one game but it certainly did give me hope. It's a long offseason and i'm sure that's enough time for Asik to work on that jumper.

    Just throwing out an idea.

I agree with the thought of Asik at the high post. I think he could be a taller Chuck Hayes out there. He's got the basic face up game without the jumper. He can see over everybody to throw a low entry pass and if they try to impede his vision, he's got the ability to take one dribble and go to the rim. Asik is much better on the move offensively then he is standing around down low, and trying to catch and finish in traffic.
