Obviously not many people saw this coming and hindsight is 20/20, but had a chuckle on how every part of the above statement was wrong. They got out of the 2nd while playing (sweeping) both Memphis and Lakers.
The spurs should have been in the finals last year. If you guys remember, OKC got hot against them and it seemed like whatever OKC threw up there went in the bucket. I think they shot close to 60% for the entire series last year. Spurs just caught them at a bad time. I full expect the Spurs to beat Miami in 6 or 7 games. It's going to be a fun series to watch and yet I'm already counting the Pacers out. Pacers, yawn.
The Spurs are so good/coached so well that we are conditioned to think they play "perfect basketball". Meaning whenever you see them make mistakes you are shocked and surprised. During game 3 i think, they had like 7 turnovers in the first 6 mins of the game. I was convinced that the Spurs had "fixed" the game. There was no way a Pop coached team makes that many mistakes.
Nobody has had an easier path to the Finals before in history they didnt even have to face a 4 seed in the West to get there. So many injuries. Thats the ridiculous part
LMAO, how did your Lakers do against them? Maybe your team should try to get within single digits before you start talking smack....
it is amazing how they play you look at our offense, harden dribbling the ball for 12 seconds, and taking step back 3s SA never does that. they move, cut, pass and get the ball back. i hope harden is watching as he could learn a ton from the Spurs
They beat the 7 seed, then the 6 seed and finally the 5 seed. Wow. Everyone in history had it easier. The Spurs run is about as impressive as Emeril Lagasse and his spice throwing BAM. Congrats to them, the organization over the years has been great. They are the most opportunistic team of all time. Not good enough to win it all when opponents are good, but good enough to win it all every year the league's best is mediocre. If they beat the Heat in the NBA Finals, I will truly be impressed. The Spurs were tested a few times by the Lakers, but have never impressed me in the Finals. Hell, one of their Finals opponents was an 8 seed. Ewww, I'm shaking in fear of a team that can beat an 8 seed.
What? This doesn't make any sense. They took care of the 7 seed, sure. Then, they beat the 6th seed (who beat the 3rd seed), and then the 5th seed who beat the 4th seed. Spurs aren't just randomly beating teams that didn't deserve to be there. Spurs still had to go through the tough WC to get to the EC winner, and beat them. And again, that eighth seeded Knicks team deserved to be there. Honestly, you're saying that the Spurs' titles only came when the league stunk. So the league's play was super great during even numbered years, while in the odd numbered years, the play dropped considerably? Give me a break.
The best part about it is that Pop yanks his ass out of the game at the next whistle when that happens.
Fundamental bro, they feed the bigs and play inside out. Occasionally mix it up with one on one. Compare that to our playbook and tell me how feel.
They did sweep the Grizzlies. I hate the Spurs and even I'll give them props for that. That being said, the first two rounds weren't that difficult for them. An injury-riddled Lakers team that would've been lucky to win a single game. A young, inexperienced Warriors team that couldn't even hold a 16-point lead with 4 1/2 minutes left in Game 1(or guard a wide-open Manu off the inbounds in the final seconds of OT). And they avoided the Thunder, the team that eliminated them last year and the only ones in the West who would've had home court advantage against San Antonio. If they manage to beat the Heat in the Finals and there aren't any mitigating circumstances like an injured Dwayne Wade, then they'll have earned the title. But if somehow Miami blows it against the Pacers and the Spurs get to face them instead, it's not gonna look like a very impressive run in retrospect.
You're going to knock them for beating an 8th seed 14 years ago? I don't think it's fair to discredit any championship team opportunistic or not. Perhaps when they win it all you don't give them enough credit because they make everyone else look mediocre in the process. Every team had the same opportunity to win it all as the Spurs did in their runs. The Spurs have beaten some good teams and some really great teams to win their rings over the years. The 2003 Lakers with all their injuries and turmoil still had Shaq and Kobe. In 2005 the Spurs had to get through 2 really great teams to win the title. The 2005 Suns were deep, fast, athletic and could shoot lights out. They're definitely in the discussion for one of the best teams to not win a title. They had a truly great season by all means that year and were favorites to win it all and the Spurs absolutely tooled them. In the Finals they had an epic battle with the Pistons team who were defending a Championship and that Pistons team also beat a very good Heat team with a Prime D-Wade and still good Shaq. The 2005 Pistons squad was a great team and they would probably give this years Heat all kinds of fits.
^ Robert Horry deserves so much from the Spurs. Knocking Nash into the table leading to Amare leaving the bench and getting suspended. Playing hero against the Pistons in 2005 (was it game 5?).
