some libs are god fearing people. time to move on.

I find it hilarious that in the response of a tragic national event, a president goes to a church in an affected area, makes a statement about faith, and someone decides to comment on the hypothetical response of a group of people had another president hypothetically said it.

I utterly despise Christianity ( though for very, very different reasons from most internet atheists), but what is exactly morally disgusting about a Christian saying that things go according to God's will?

Of course they are. I said some Demos, which I inferred aren't God fearing, will excuse this because it is their guy. But if it was someone on the right they would lambaste them as an ignorant Christian.

It's funny because they excuse Obama as if he is only saying that because he is in Oklahoma and he doesn't really believe what he said.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if he did mean it. But, I don't think he does, which makes the statement kinda insipid and vacuous. But, it's a memorial, so whatever. If Bush said it at a memorial I would think he really meant it so it wouldn't be vacuous, just insipid (saying God has a plan after a tornado has devestated a town isn't really all that comforting or otherwise meaningful) -- but it's a memorial, so whatever.

Haha. Are you related to David Axelrod?

Please explain why you don't think he means it?

"If this was Bush the left would be calling him a “religion fanatic.” " - YOU

K, I see your game. You can generalize and make assumptions but we can't. Cool beans.

Please feel free to debate my claim.

I rebutted the claims thrown at me.

    That's how it goes.

Its simple. You say to other posters don't generalize yet you do. I proved that. Its something that people call hypocrisy. Everyone is guilty of it once in a while. It's just yours is so obvious since it occurred in the same thread.

I asked for him not to define me, and then I rebutted all his claims about me.

Please feel free to rebut my claim that that if presented with an opportunity to bash Bush for religion they would.

Just because everyone else doesn't try to reframe everything the man says into something problematic or derogatory or evil doesn't mean everyone else is excusing anything, or that they would be outraged if it were another party in power. Most people, regardless of their political affiliations, aren't trying as hard as you, to make everything from nothing.

I like getting perspective from all sides of things, but this act is really tired.

No acting, just stating that the leader of the known world believes we are all instruments of God's will.

I find it funny that more Libs have no problem with this. It's easy to look the other way when its the guy you like though. I understand.

16 out of 33 posts to make sure we all know what he thinks is funny regarding how people would have felt if another person had said something that someone said.

Because a while back I read a long interview he did about religion that I thought was pretty enlightening as to where he stands. As a Christian he is very liberal, to the point that I think he's almost unrecognizeable as such, almost like a Unitarian Universalist. So, in whatever way he professes to believe that God has a plan and we're instruments of that plan -- I think he understands it very differently than someone in my conservative, presdestination-leaning church would, and even differently from the more free-will Baptist sorts.

But, so what? Even if he meant it in a godless Muslim way, I don't see how it matters. You worry about that when you're electing a president and wonder wht his beliefs might imply about how he will run the country. But, we don't need those sorts of lead indicators any more. We have over 4 years of history to look at. He's a known quantity.
