Even with the stats, I think it's impossible.

Dream was more than just a player for the Rockets. He is an icon, a legend, a humanitarian and the athlete that represents everything good about Houston athletics.

It was a different time, and unfortunately, with the way public personas are, I don't think James' personal life will ever be perceived as "humble" as Hakeem's.

I think James will be one of the best Rockets players to put on a uniform, but he'll never be the greatest. That title embodies Hakeem.

    IMO. :p

    Rick Barry
    Elvis Hayes
    Moses Malone
    Charles Barkley
    Clyde Drexler

He's got a ways to go to surpass any of those 5.

    Agree with you on:
    Elvin Hayes
    Moses Malone
    Clyde Drexler

Rick Barry and Charles Barkley were both better than Harden, but they only played a couple of years for us.

Most people don't realize just how good some of these old timers were.
Moses, Rick and Elvin were phenomenal players.

Its highly unlikely for Harden to surpass Dream. But hey I wouldn't mind because if somehow Harden does surpass Dream that means Harden will be an all-time great and will help bring at least 3 more championships to this organization. Extremely lofty expectations.

Could very well end up as the 2nd best ever...

    But Dream stays on top!

Highly doubtful he would need to win at least three championships as others have said.

But even with that what Dream did in 94 may not be accomplished again for a very very long time. He took a team as its only star to the promises land beating teams with hall of famers like Stockton/Malone, Drexler, Barkley, Ewing, etc. This was no super friends or even super friends lite Duncan/Parker/Manu. This was a defensive, season, and finals MVP on god mode. Can't see anyone playing like that again.

Depends how many championship he brings to Houston, he'll need to bring several to be in the conversation thats for sure. But IMO Dream will always be best.

Jesus just went and looked up some stats on the Dream.

Only player in NBA history to record 200 steals and blocks in the same season. Led the NBA in rebounding twice, and here's a brain buster, he's top 8 ALL TIME in steals! The only Center in the top ten. He averaged over three blocks and 1.75 steals a game and of course is the leagues career leader in shot blocks. One of only 4 players to ever have a quadruple double..... on and on and on.

Dream was on another planet can't see harden coming close.

He is an active player on the roster so yes he has a chance.

I don't think it will happen though.

He can't even surpass Yao if he doesn't improve a lot on defensive end. Long way to go before you bring Hakeem into the conversation.

Harden has a chance to be number two if he wins a ring. That would put him above 95% of all Rockets players simply because he won a ring for Houston. People appreciate winning over stats, only way Harden can overcome Hakeem is if he gets at least 3 rings.

If Harden could break into the top five he would be a first ballot hall of famer. I would be happy with that if that is all he achieves. Hakeem and Moses both won MVP with the Rockets, so Harden has some work to do to approach what they accomplished with the Rockets.
