Why did so many people pick Memphis? Just becaue they beat a weak Thunder team that the Rockets should have beaten? I never understood why so many people thought Memphis would be the Spurs. Strange.
The Grizz have peaked. They can't improve with mediocre picks. They should have traded Gay earlier and for much more. They were better off if they kept him rather than making that trade. He would have given the Grizzlies an x-factor and increased the variance, especially if they went small. This is as good as it gets for them. WCF max, but never good enough to beat the Heat. Even if the Spurs age like milk instead of wine next season.
The poll was 50-50. I think it has something to do with the Grizz beating the Spurs in the 1-8 match up 2 years ago.
lol what? They beat a Clippers team that featured Paul, Griffin, and a fantastic bench. Then they beat a Thunder team that had Durant, with Ibaka and Perkins who should have matched up well with ZBo and Randolph I was one of the people who thought Memphis would win this series. But beating a team and dominating / sweeping a team are two different things. I doubt anyone here predicted dominance like this over the Grizz, by the Spurs.
When WB went down, the Grizzlies instantly became my pick for the Finals over the Spurs. Watching the Spurs get dominated by the Warriors their first 2 games reinforced that. But the Grizzlies' struggles to beat OKC each and every game gave me pause. Then, watching the Spurs go to another level against the Warriors made me wobble again and I made the Spurs a slight favorite. That was my thought process. Can't speak for anyone else. At no point in time did I consider the Grizzlies a great team. It just appeared (for a day or two) the Red Sea was opening for them.
I don't know why people picked the Grizz. Maybe it's b/c it's the pick of the underdog. But they are so offensively inept that it's unthinkable that they could generate enough offense to beat the Spurs 4 out of 7 times. I didn't expect a potential sweep (thought it would go 6), but their lack of offense is getting exposed. Can they shoot over 45% at least? Geez. Their offense stinks. OKC would have beaten them in 5 or 6 had WB stayed healthy.
I think the inferior coaching by Del Negro and Brooks made Memphis look so dominate it seemed as if they would just run through the Spurs. I got warped up in the hype too.

The better team is winning this game and will eventually win this series. I could never get on the Grizz bandwagon. I must admit, I didn't think the Spurs would dominate them like this. My original pick was Spurs in 6. You need a consistent perimeter threat to be considered a real contender and the Grizz weakness is being exposed big time in this series.
But according to some people on clutchfans, he's better than Rudy Gay and the Griz are a better team with him out there even though he's giving you nothing on both ends of the court, smh Yup and this series is proof of that. This is something nobody wants to admit. Their offense is painful to watch. I don't think they even get out of the 1st round if Blake Griffin is healthy and they definitely don't get out of the 2nd round if RWB plays. They still struggled in every game against OKC without Westbrook. I've said it all along that the Griz were fool's gold. They may not get a single victory over a fully healthy team this entire post-season.
