Ed Wade tried to get a premium package for Bourn, but ended up settling for less. Here is a link: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/anatomy-of-a-baseball-trade-10202011.html that discusses the breakdown of the trade between Ed Wade and Frank Wren.

Looks like Wade had another offer but decided to go home instead, even when he was offered better players. I've seen it speculated on another board a while back that the offer was from Mike Rizzo, GM of the Washington Nationals. The Nationals were looking for a centerfielder as well and probably kicked the tires on a Bourn trade. Wonder what hey would've offered.

George Springer has gone on a walking jag recently, 10 walks in his last 6 games.

Wren lowballed him, and he didn't even counter. Thats the shame in that.

    Recap

    Iowa 5, Oklahoma City 4

The Redhawks outhit the Cubs 8-4, but they lost in the column that matters. They were in prime position to tie and/or take the lead in the 7th, after Fernando Martinez hit a sac fly that made it a 5-4 game, and at the same time, Brett Wallace advanced to 3rd and Brandon Laird to 2nd. Marc Krauss walked to load the bases, but they were all stranded.

Jonathan Villar went 2-5 and led off the game with a home run (4). Brandon Laird hit a solo shot (3) to lead off the 6th and Carlos Perez added a sac fly later in the inning. Perez hit a double to lead off the 8th but only made it to 3rd.

Brad Peacock went 5 2/3 innings and allowed everything: 5 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 4 (2 came with the bases loaded in the 1st), and struck out 8. Josh Zeid got the final out of the 6th and the first out of the 7th, striking out 1. Alex Sogard finished with 1 2/3 scoreless, walking 2 and striking out 3.

Asher Wojciechowski, coming off his worst outing as a member of the Astros organization, will get the start in game 2 of this series. He will be opposed by Brooks Raley. First pitch will be at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 2, Northwest Arkansas 0

The Hooks got the sweep behind a combined 1-hitter from Mike Foltynewicz and David Martinez. Folty went 5 innings, walked 3, and struck out 2. Martinez finished it off to win his 8th game and his 6th straight decision, as he allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 2. The first batter that Martinez faced, Roman Hernandez, broke up the no-hitter in the 6th.

Jonathan Meyer put the Hooks on the board in the 7th with an RBI single, and Rene Garcia finished 2-4 with an RBI double in the 8th.

Now that they've swept one of the Arkansas teams, the Hooks will now welcome the other Arkansas team, the Travelers, to Corpus Christi. R.J. Alaniz and Jorge De Leon will get the start in the series opener. Arkansas will go with Michael Roth. First pitch is at 7:05.

    Lancaster 12, Inland Empire 4

The Jethawks took over first place by half a game on Thursday... they increased that lead over the 66ers to 1 1/2 after a nice little romp on Friday.

They jumped out to an 8-1 lead after the 3rd. The 66ers cut it to an 8-4 game, but the Jethawks more or less ended it with 3 in the 5th.

Joe Sclafani and Andrew Aplin both went 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Sclafani drew a bases-loaded walk in the 5th and Aplin smacked his 5th homer of the season, a 2-run shot in the 1st. He also added a 2-run single in the 5th. Preston Tucker was 2-5 with 2 runs scored, and he provided the cherry by blasting a solo shot (7) in the 8th. Went pretty far.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>I think Preston Tucker put one on the 14 freeway on-ramp. It went really really really far. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23drivesafely">#drivesafely</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23jethawks">#jethawks</a></p>&mdash; Jason Schwartz (@jasondschwartz) <a href="https://twitter.com/jasondschwartz/status/338155308977364993">May 25, 2013</a></blockquote>

Tyler Heineman was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored, 2 walks, and a 2-run single in the 1st. Brandon Meredith also had a 3-hit night, adding a double, a walk, and a run scored. As for the runs that weren't batted in... Sclafani scored on a wild pitch from Orangel Arenas in the 2nd. Later in the inning Aplin and Raoul Torrez scored on an error that allowed Preston Tucker to reach, and in the 3rd, Heineman scored on another wild pitch from Arenas. Delino DeShields was 0-4 with an intentional walk and a run scored.

Chris Devenski went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 6. Brady Rodgers finished with 4 scoreless, allowing 2 hits and striking out 3.

Game 3 of the series has the Jethawks trying to create more separation between them and the 66ers. David Rollins and Tyson Perez will be tonight's pairing and they'll take on Dan Reynolds at 7 Pacific.

    Quad Cities 4, Wisconsin 3

The River Bandits snapped a 6-game losing streak by avoiding the sweep.

Both teams put up a run in the 1st. Wisconsin got theirs on an RBI single from Victor Roache, and QC responded in the form of a Rio Ruiz RBI single. The Timber Rattlers got 2 in the 2nd, but Carlos Correa answered with a 2-run triple in the 4th. After Ariel Ovando drew a walk to lead off the 8th, he was lifted for Teoscar Hernandez, who made his way from station to station and then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Lance McCullers went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. Dan Minor tagged in and shut down the Timber Rattlers, allowing 2 hits and striking out 5 over 4 scoreless innings.

Quad Cities will now travel to Clinton. The series opener has Colton Cain taking on Tyler Pike in the 1st game of a doubleheader. In the 2nd game, Mike Hauschild will face Victor Sanchez. Game 1 will start at 5:00.

    Three Stars

    Pitcher-heavy flavor today.

Looks like his luck is changing for the better.

Brady Rodgers, P, Lancaster, and Dan Minor, P, Quad Cities

    Rodgers: Save (1), 4 IP, 2 H, 3 K
    Minor: W (3-1), 4 IP, 2 H, 5 K

A good day for the piggybackers.

Rodgers has really gotten acclimated to Lancaster. His opponent BABIP is .352, which sort of explains his struggles early this season. His groundball rate of 53.7% is way above the California League's average of 42.8%, but they've seemed to find holes, or they've been rolling too slowly for his infielders to make plays. Behind that 3.88 ERA is a FIP of 3.53 and a 3.41 SIERA. So... he could be making short work of Lancaster if/when the BABIP normalizes.

Minor has been pretty consistent, with a few poor outings being the outliers in his line.

    1.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Mike Foltynewicz and Davd Martinez, P, Corpus Christi

    Foltynewicz: 5 IP, 3 BB, 2 K
    Martinez: W(8-0), 4 IP, H, BB, 2 K

Folty has been near-unhittable since joining the Hooks. However, he's going to need to tame that walk rate moving forward.

Martinez has owned the Texas League, but the TCB guys don't think he'll be a starter in the long term. He did elicit Wilton Lopez comparisons, though.

    Honorable Mentions

Tyler Heineman, C, Lancaster: His .347 average would be 2nd, and his .929 OPS would lead the Jethawks and be 8th in the California League if he had enough plate appearances to qualify.

Carlos Correa, SS, Quad Cities: 6 of his last 10 games have been of the multi-hit variety, and he's had an RBI in 7 of his last 10.

Preston Tucker, RF, Lancaster: Hopefully this is a sign of his power returning.

Joe Sclafani, SS, Lancaster: Sclafani has emerged as a legit on-base machine in Nolan Fontana's absence.

Alex Sogard, P, Oklahoma City: He looks like he could be more than just a LOOGY. Maybe a left-handed Wilton Lopez?

    Goat

No one really had a horrible performance last night, but Raoul Torrez had a hat trick. That's about as bad as it got in the system last night...

    Let's play 2 in Clinton!

    Asher Wojciechowski got throttled again.

After taking over the lead from Inland Empire, Lancaster looked to distance themselves some more.

    Recap

    Iowa 7, Oklahoma City 3

The Redhawks dropped their 4th straight as the Cubs used a 4-run 2nd to spur them to a win.

Asher Wojciechowski struggled in 5 1/3 tonight, as he allowed 5 runs (4 earned, 1 inherited) on 7 hits. On the bright side, he walked 2 and struck out 5. Kevin Chapman went 1 2/3 and allowed a 2-run homer to former Astros great Edwin Maysonet. Only one of those runs was charged to him; the other went to Wojo. He allowed another hit, walked 2, and struck out 1. Jose Valdez allowed a run in the 8th on 2 hits, walked 2, and fanned 1.

Brett Wallace turned out to be the entire OKC offense. He put the Redhawks on the board with a 2-run homer in the 1st and added an RBI groundout in the 7th. Marc Krauss went 2-3 with a walk.

Next up on the docket is a doubleheader starting this afternoon, at 1:05. Brett Oberholtzer will start the first game, and he'll take on Barret Loux. In game 2, Philip Humber is being listed as the starter, and Yoanner Negrin will be opposing him.

    Corpus Christi 10, Arkansas 3

After the Travelers scored 1 in the top of the 6th to make it a 4-3 game, Corpus ran off 6 in the bottom of the inning to run away with the series opener.

R.J. Alaniz got his first win of the year with 5 solid innings. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and walked 1. Jorge De Leon allowed a hit over 2 scoreless innings. Sergio Escalona, in his first game at any level since September 7, 2011, allowed a solo homer to Randal Grichuk (a former standout at Lamar Consolidated) and struck out 1 in the 8th. Pat Urckfitz worked around a hit to finish off the game.

Jio Mier went 2-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. His 1st run came on a wild pitch in the 1st to start the scoring. Max Stassi then hit a 2-run double. The Hooks would not score again until the 7th, when Erik Castro hit an RBI single. After Grichuk took Escalona deep in the top of the 8th, the floodgates opened. George Springer scored on an error, and then Enrique Hernandez had a 2-run single. Rene Garcia was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Springer came back to smack a 2-run single that iced the game.

The middle game of the series pits Carlos Quevedo and Jake Buchanan against Brandon Hynick. First pitch will be at 6:05.

    Lancaster 5, Inland Empire 1

The Jethawks have taken the first 3 games with 3 runs late.

Andrew Aplin hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 1st to put Lancaster on the board first. That was the only RBI; the other 4 runs were scored off various Inland Empire miscues. Brandon Meredith hit a 1-out triple in the 4th and was picked off 3rd.... but the umpire ruled that to be a balk and he scored to make it a 2-1 game. Delino DeShields flared a 1-out double in the 7th and scored on a wild pitch. Preston Tucker singled to lead off the 8th and after Meredith sacrificed him over to 2nd, he would score on an error that allowed Tyler Heineman to reach. Heineman was then picked off for the 2nd out. Then, 2 singles from Raoul Torrez and Chris Epps and a DeShields walk loaded the bases for Joe Sclafani. A passed ball allowed Torrez to score.

Aplin also had this gem on defense.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Here’s visual evidence of Aplin’s incredible, phenomenal, extraordinary catch courtesy of Terry Lawton. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23JetHawks">#JetHawks</a> <a href="http://t.co/zGF9avraCz" title="http://twitter.com/JetHawks/status/338534624101822464/photo/1">twitter.com/JetHawks/statu…</a></p>&mdash; Lancaster JetHawks (@JetHawks) <a href="https://twitter.com/JetHawks/status/338534624101822464">May 26, 2013</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

David Rollins went 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 3, and fanned 3. Mike Dimock's Mustache threw a 1-2-3 5th. Tyson Perez threw 3 perfect innings for the win, striking out 4. Looks like he got a few pointers on his changeup from Blair Walters. Maybe that played a role?

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>S/O to my boy @<a href="https://twitter.com/bwalters34">bwalters34</a>for help with the change up!! <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23greatteammate">#greatteammate</a></p>&mdash; Tyson Perez (@Timesonperez) <a href="https://twitter.com/Timesonperez/status/338537429839523840">May 26, 2013</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Travis Ballew finished it off with a 1-2-3 9th, striking out 2.

The Jethawks will look for the sweep as Luis Cruz and Kyle Hallock take on Mark Sappington. First pitch is at 2:00 Pacific.

    Game 1: Clinton 1, Quad Cities 0

Colton Cain pitched well in his 4 2/3 innings, as he allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Unfortunately, he was charged with the loss, as he allowed 2 doubles in the 5th, which resulted in the lone run. Cain has struggled mightily, but he's pitched very well this month, sporting a 2.86 ERA despite a 1-3 record. His 6.32 ERA masks a 3.12 FIP. He's also only allowed 1 home run this season, so he hasn't been bombed; he's been one of the unluckiest pitchers in the system so far. Richard Rodriguez retired all 4 batters he faced, striking out 1.

The River Bandits offense was held to 4 hits. Jordan Scott went 2-2.

Uneventful first game.... what did game 2 have in store?

    Game 2: Quad Cities 6, Clinton 5

The River Bandits got the split in game 2 despite only having 3 hits and falling behind 5-0 after the 3rd. They got 2 in the 5th as Jordan Scott scored on a wild pitch and Miles Hamblin hit a sac fly. With 4 in the 6th, they took the lead. Teoscar Hernandez reached on an error that allowed Scott and Roberto Peña to score. He advanced to 2nd, the took 3rd on a wild pitch. Carlos Correa then walked, and stole 2nd (5). Hamblin drove them both in with the go-ahead single. Correa doubled and walked twice.

Mike Hauschild survived Clinton's 5-run onslaught in the 3rd. He ultimately went 5 innings and allowed all of them (4 earned) on 7 hits and struck out 1. Cam Lamb got the save, allowing 3 hits over 2 scoreless.

TBA will get the start in game 3 of this series. Whoever he is, he will oppose Rusty Shellhorn at 2 PM.

Delino DeShields is 4-6 with a triple, an RBI, and a steal (10). I think he was at 10 steals 2 weeks into last season.

Right? Though it seems that he's over whatever was leading him to not rack up SB like we all expect him to. He's got about 5 in the past week or so?

Let's play 2 in Des Moines!

    Liftoff in Lancaster!!!

Quad Cities battled the rain, and Clinton. Did they emerge victorious?

    Recap

    Game 1: Iowa 2, Oklahoma City 1

An Andy Simunic RBI groundout in the 2nd was the only scoring for the Redhawks, who were held to 3 hits. Jake Elmore went 2-3, and Marc Krauss doubled. He was the scorer.

Brett Oberholtzer went 5 1/3 and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (solo homer) and fanned 2. Josh Zeid got the final 2 outs of the 6th, striking out 1.

They were burned late by a home run... what happened in game 2?

    Game 2: Iowa 4, Oklahoma City 3

The Redhawks got burned by a late solo homer again. Donnie Murphy took Science Guy for a ride in the 6th to put the Cubs ahead.

Krauss hit a sac fly in the 4th, Jonathan Villar had an RBI triple in the 5th, and Brett Wallace scored on a wild pitch in the 6th.

Phil Humber went 4 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 5. Science Guy went 1 2/3 and allowed the homer to Murphy. He also walked 1. Jason Stoffel got the final out of the 6th.

The Redhawks will look to avoid a 5-game sweep tomorrow afternoon, as Ross Seaton will take on Guillermo Moscoso. First pitch is at 1:05.

    Arkansas 8, Corpus Christi 6

A Hooks comeback fell just short. They were down 8-1, and then they put up a nickel in the 8th.

The Hooks actually got on the board on first thanks to a Domingo Santana RBI single. That was all they could muster... until the 8th. Michael Burgess scored on an error. Ben Orloff then hit a 2-run single, George Springer hit an RBI single, and Santana added a sac fly. Enrique Hernandez went 2-4 with a double. They loaded the bases with 1 out in the 9th, but Jio Mier and Ben Orloff flied out to end it.

Carlos Quevedo went 3 innings and allowed 4 runs on 8 hits (2 homers) and struck out 1. Andrew Robinson went 1 1/3 and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Kenny Long went 1 2/3 and walked 1 and struck out 2. Josh Fields allowed a run on 3 hits and struck out 1 in the 7th. Matt Heidenreich walked 1 and fanned 1 over 2 scoreless.

The series finale will be tomorrow at 4:05. Nick Tropeano and Bobby Doran will face Matt Oye.

    Lancaster 18, Inland Empire 10

Jethawks entered this series .5 behind Inland Empire. They exit with a 3.5 game lead over the 66ers after the...

A 10-run 7th blew the game wide, wide open. The Jethawks were trailing 5-0 at one point. They decided to fight back and ultimately took a 7-6 lead after the 6th. The 66ers responded with 3 to retake the lead, but the Jethawks seized control after that.

Delino DeShields went 4-6 with a triple, an RBI single in the 3rd for Lancaster's 1st run, and added a steal (10). Telvin Nash went 0-2, striking out twice.... but he drew 3 walks and scored a run. 1 of those walks came with the bases loaded in the 3rd. After DeShields tripled in the 5th, Joe Sclafani sent out his first of the season. Sclafani finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 walks. He's walking twice as much as he's striking out (31 BB, 15 K combined) this season!! Brandon Meredith entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 6th for Jean Carlos Batista, and he proceeded to club a 3-run homer (3) to complete the first comeback.

After 2 homers put the 66ers back on top in the 7th, Raoul Torrez started things off with a sac fly, and then... the onslaught began. Chris Epps smashed a 3-run shot (3) to put the Jethawks back in the lead. Meredith came up, and with Tyler Heineman on 2nd, sent another one out (4). DeShields legged out an infield single, stole 2nd, and came home on a Sclafani single. Andrew Aplin got on board with a single, and despite a Nash strikeout, Preston Tucker mashed his 7th homer of the season. A dime in the 7th for Lancaster. A Tyler Heineman groundout in the 8th was the final Jethawks run.

Aplin finished 2-5 with 2 runs scored. Tucker's home run was his only hit of the afternoon. Heineman, who entered the game in the 3rd after Ryan McCurdy was hit by a pitch, went 1-3 with 3 runs scored. Meredith added a 1-out single in the 8th. Epps finished 3-4 with 4 runs scored. He was a double shy of the cycle, tripling in the 8th and scoring on Heineman's grounder.

That more than made up for a largely poor pitching performance. Luis Cruz only lasted 2 innings. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. T.J. Geith allowed a hit and struck out 2 in 2 scoreless innings. Kyle Hallock went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (3 homers), walked 1, and struck out 1. Jonas Dufek allowed an unearned run and walked 1 in the 9th to end it.

The Jethawks are on the road for 3 in Rancho Cucamonga, with game 1 beginning at 2:05 Pacific. Tom Shirley and his partner (again, with the constant changing of tandems outside of Rollins/Perez and Devenski/Rodgers, I don't know who's paired with who) will face James Campbell. That's subject to change, if Aaron West is activated from the DL.

    Quad Cities 5, Clinton 2

The River Bandits took a 2-1 lead in the series by putting up 1 in the 1st, 4th, and 5th, and put up some insurance with 2 in the 9th.

Ryan Dineen put QC on the board first with a sac fly in the 1st. Austin Elkins went 3-4 with an RBI single in the 4th that tied the game at 2, and with 1 out in the 5th, Terrell Joyce put the River Bandits up with a solo homer (3). He also drew 3 walks and scored twice. His 2nd run came off a LumberKings error in the 9th. Roberto Peña doubled with 2 outs and would score on a wild pitch. Jordan Scott went 2-3 with 2 walks. As a team, the River Bandits drew 11 walks.

Brian Holmes went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 2, and fanned 5. Gera Sanchez pitched 2 scoreless, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Jordan Jankowski finished with 4 scoreless, allowing a hit and striking out 5.

The River Bandits and LumberKings will wrap up their series at 2 PM. Vince Velasquez and Jamaine Cotton will take on Matt Anderson.

    4-6, 3B, RBI, SB (10), 2 R

He seems to be finding his rhythm at the plate this month. I think DeShields could really take off in June.

    2.

    Jordan Jankowski, P, Quad Cities
    Save (2), 4 IP, H, 5 K

Jankowski seems to have the strikeout working from him again. He's been good as a starter, but has been filthy in relief, just like he was in Greeneville.

    Brandon Meredith, LF, Lancaster
    3-3, 2 HR (5), 5 RBI, 2 R

Meredith, after a slow start, has caught fire this month. The exact same thing happened in Lexington last year, when he went on an absolute tear after the Sally League All-Star break.

    Honorable Mentions

Chris Epps, OF, Lancaster: Epps has proven to be a very valuable organizational bat.

Joe Sclafani, 2B/SS, Lancaster: Does he know that this is reality?

Terrell Joyce, OF, Quad Cities: Big home run to put QC ahead. This was also his 2nd straight 3-walk game.

Jake Elmore, 2B, Oklahoma City: For having 2 of the 3 hits in Game 1.

Andrew Aplin, CF, Lancaster: See what happens when the balls start finding grass instead of people?

Austin Elkins, 2B, Quad Cities: He's on the rebound after stumbling this month.

Domingo Santana, RF, Corpus Christi: Sure, I wish his .250 average was a little higher, but his triple slash line is still pretty darn good. Would like to see his 35% K rate entering today get slashed by around 10% by the end of the season, though. However, at the same time, I hope his walk rate (12.7%) remains steady.

Can't believe it's already been 50 games into the season and I have yet to see any Astros games (except vs Rangers).

Carlos Correa is currently 2-4 with a double and 4 RBI; one came on a force play in the 3rd, then he added an RBI double in the 5th, and drilled one into the ground for a 2-run single in the 6th.

Quad Cities leads Clinton 6-4 heading into the 7th.

George Springer has retaken the Minor League home run lead. Corpus had been trailing Arkansas 4-1 in the 3rd, but Springer sent out his 14th of the season to get them back into the game. Not to be left out, Domingo Santana sent out #8 (also a solo shot).

However, Michael Burgess is the leader in the clubhouse, as he sent out his 2nd of the afternoon in the inning. That was a 2-run shot that gave Corpus a 5-4 lead. They're still batting with 1 out. Max Stassi just reached on an error.

Aaron West, who was activated from the DL today, threw 5 shutout innings, allowed a hit, and struck out 4 for Lancaster. Joe Sclafani hit a 2-run double in the 5th to put the Jethawks in front.

I really hope he is the one that gets called up for Robbie Grossman, he's just absolutely killing it down in AA.

Please keep up with the updates too, I look forward to these everyday man, they are very professional and well written!

DeSheilds is 3 for 3 with a walk , unfortunately has a cought stealing too. Im glad to see that it looks like he is turning things around with the bat lately, I think the steals will come. As long as he keeps getting on base i dont mind the lack of steals, he has the speed and will evenutally get thing straightened out. I would be alot more woried if he just plain was sucking at the plate.

Agree on both counts. Springer seems ready to come up, and I would love to see him in Houston soon. Outside of reducing his K-rate, I don't know what more he has to prove. He's to hoping...

Also, is it weird that I wouldn't still mind seeing Wallace come up? Move doesn't make sense with Grossman going down, but I want to see him up here again.
