Fizer, Jay Williams, Oden, and Livingston had legit reasons there careers were considered busts. They had major injuries that changed and some of them actually ended their careers.

man the thought of that great detroit team taking melo at #2 over darko and adding his scoring to that super defense and team concept is scary. I can't even imagine melo buying into team ball or playing defense

    billups
    Rip Hamilton
    Tayshaun
    Rasheed wallace
    Ben Wallce

Carmelo coming off the bench as a super 6th man and just pure scorer, wow what could have been

Dejuan Wagner and Darius Miles were top 6 picks.

I always felt Dark got really unlucky

Went to a championship ready team with a deep frontline and a coach that was notorious for hating rookies

If he had the kind of minutes and free reign Melo had (Melo was shooting below 40% for the longest time during his rookie year if I recall), he probably would've turned out okay

I think the best what could have been is what if tracy stayed in orlando because it had nothing to do with luck.

    Howard
    Turkoglu
    Ariza
    Mcgrady
    Nelson

Their draft pick in 05 would have been lower and maybe they would have drafted granger. At the least tracy would have made it past the first round.

Not kwame, but the other two are.

This is where the HYPE! FACTOR and familiarity of name comes into play.

Epke Udoh was a good prospect, he shot up. He just hasnt delivered, and wasnt as ballyhooed.

Telfair and Beasley were those CAN'T MISS game changers. Telfair slid cuz he needed a LITTLE more time, but given room to develope he's supposed to be in that Rajon Rondo level now.

    ---

What about Yi Jianlian? People KNEW he had bust potential going in. EVERYBODY kept telling the NBA and Bucks "STOP WASTING so much TIME on him - He AINT worth it " . And they DID it ANYWAY. Even MORE SO than the Greg Oden warning signs.

What about Dajuan Wagner. Not STRUCTURAL injuries so much, but he was "unhealthy". He was hyped. He did far less than Shaun Livingston. If he became what he was SUPPOSED to be, the Cavs woulda have a version of OKC Durant/Westbrook, or a Lebron/D Wade combo. But I guess there's some excusable reasons with Wagner.

(Jan Vesely's turn is waiting to be mentioned)

Ah didnt see that, just mentioned Wagner.

Darius Miles I think gets somewhat a pass because he's in that 2000 draft that had NO HOPE in SIGHT for "Miles", the entire lottery on down. (Though maybe Miles should be the poster child of "bust" there. The whole HS-to-Pro fan favorite, "Next Kobe/KG/T-Mac" phenom following gone wrong.)

    Just draft related -
Enes KANTER was a #3 pick last year. Now I'm not saying he WON'T be a next Alonzo Mourning, Marcus Camby. ... I'da loved to had him on the team with Asik. But goodness there's gotta be a reason KURT THOMAS drafted back with with ED O'BANNON is STILL PLAYING in the league.

Didnt we just see PJ Brown stop in for a cup of tea - I mean REALLY where ARE the big men now lol. At least Shawn Bradley and Rik Smits were STARTERS coming in. If Marc Gasol and Roy Hibbert didnt come around, would be some piss poor big men scene going on.

I'd add Marvin Williams somewhere in the top five.

Atlanta's number two pick in the 2005 draft, when they had drafted Josh Smith the year before, thereby doubling down on the same position and passing up on two franchise point guards in Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

Career average of 11 points a game.

    http://nypost.com/2017/06/11/ex-basketball-phenom-busted-with-car-filled-with-loaded-guns/

Former Big Apple basketball sensation Sebastian Telfair was busted early Sunday in Brooklyn with a bulletproof vest and a small arsenal inside his truck, police sources said.

The 32-year-old had been with another man, identified as Jami Thomas, 18, when cops pulled him over in Bed-Stuy around 2:50 a.m. and uncovered the weapons cache during a routine traffic stop, according to authorities.

All in all, officers found three loaded pistols, a gas-operated submachine gun, extended magazines, ammunition and the ballistic vest.

The pair had been driving in a Ford F-150 pickup truck without the headlights on, prompting officers to stop them, sources said.

They had been parked illegally on a median on Atlantic Avenue near Classon Street just before the incident and drawn the officers’ attention.

After being pulled over, cops smelled mar1juana and eventually spotted a burning joint inside the truck. They then asked Telfair and Thomas to step out of the vehicle and placed them under arrest.

Upon searching the truck, sources said officers discovered two bags of pot and the pair’s gun collection — which included a SIG MPX Pistol, a Ruger LC9s, and a Springfield Armory XD9 Mod 2 Pistol.

The weapon is described by Personal Defense World magazine as an “AR-style pistol in 9mm.”

Telfair, who was driving, was later charged with unlawful possession of a ballistic vest, unlawful possession of ammunition magazine, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operator of a motor vehicle and a motor vehicle equipment violation.

Thomas was also slapped with controlled substance and gun possession-related charges, as well.

Telfair, a Brooklyn native, was one of the most sought-after players in the country during his days at Lincoln High School. Choosing to skip out on college, he made a direct jump to the NBA in 2004 and was selected 13th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers.

Telfair eventually fizzled out, though — playing for eight different teams during his 12-year career and recently making the leap to China.

Sunday’s incident isn’t the first time the standout point guard has gotten in trouble with the law.

In 2007, he and a friend were arrested on a gun charge following another routine traffic stop.

Telfair had been speeding on the Bronx River Parkway and driving with a suspended license. Officers later found a .45 caliber handgun under the passenger seat.

Telfair pleaded guilty a year later to criminal possession of a weapon and was sentenced to three years of probation.

Always though it was unusual that Marbury went pro and wanted nothing to do with his cousin's family.

I was kind of expecting Eddie Griffin to be on that list, to be honest.

That list is bogus without his name there. Number 1 pick should be there over a 10 like Sweetney who is now coming out saying he attempted suicide his rookie year.

Griffin? Nah man. He's not a bust compared to the rest of that list! Not quite as good as advertised, but a good player.

I don't agree with including players who only disappointed due to injuries that are beyond their control. By that standard, Len Bias would be labeled a bust. It's just ridiculous. It isn't that they didn't perform up to expectations, it's that they were unable to perform due to reasons beyond their control.

If a promising President entered office and was assassinated on day 1 you wouldn't then describe his Presidency as disappointing. You'd describe the loss as tragic. Same thing with these players. It's tragic their careers were cut short by injury but it doesn't fall on them.

And who the hell thought Stromile Swift didn't deserve to be on there? I sure as hell remember being disappointed with his play basically every time he stepped foot on the court.

Maybe that list should only include top 3 picks.
