Repubs need to work on something other than trying to pin scandals and coverups on the White House.

The IRS investigation is bipartisan. Even Charlie Rangel has stated that he wants to get to the bottom of it.

Yeah, but the Benghazi talking points crap is complete and utter bull****, and would still be their top priority if this tax thing (which has probably gone on in some form for the last century) wasn't discovered.

This "tax thing" is being investigated by both parties and there is no evidence that such targeting has gone on for the last century.

As for Benghazi, we just need to look at the evidence and find out who knew what and when. It is important not to get anybody charged with a crime, but to change policies so this never happens again. Regardless of what Mrs. Clinton believes, it does matter.

Obama decided not to run with a plan for the next four years so now what happens is up to what they can get done. Maybe he should have proposed a plan during the election and more people would know what he wanted to get done.

One thing to remember is only a handful of House Republicans are from districts Obama won, so it would be going against their own constituents to implement his agenda.

Is the GOP supposed to approve more taxes and spending Obama wants? Makes no sense, might as well just have one party.

The system of checks and balances that was set up in the Constitution is supposed to work this way. Just because a party wins the Presidency does not mean that they get to pass whatever they want.

    Agree

One way to avoid checks and balances is to use regulatory agencies to implement your agenda. They can impose rules and spend our money outside the democratic process.

HHS/IRS/FDA/EPA/OSHA/NLRB/DOE are all far more powerful than Congress (especially a divided Congress). Not what The Founders intended, but it is our current reality.

When 90% of the country wants something and it doesn't get implemented, the system is broken.

Name me ONE thing that any reliable poll shows 90% support for that is not being put to a vote. You can't. At this point, 90% of the country cannot agree on pizza toppings, let alone anything of significance.

The vast majority of the polls from your own article don't show "90% support."

In addition, these polls only talk about background checks. The proposed bill also included gun bans, which is much dicier territory. In short, the polls you brought up compared to the proposal that was brought to Congress is compari apples to footballs.

Show me where 90% of the country wants gun bans.

The "overwhelming" amount of citizens polled want expanded background checks and it has not happened and doesn't seem to be on its way to happening.

Multiple polls in that article show 80-90 percent support. Trying to argue the semantics of my words and ignoring the obvious supported idea does not help the legitimacy of your argument.

    The system is broken.

You don't have to live here.

The Demos really didn't want any of their legislation to pass the way they presented it for vote. It didn't pass the Senate and it sure wouldn't have passed in Congress. It was a political game to help them during the mid term elections. Same thing that is happening with the immigration bill.

The fact is that repugs and demos are both more interested in winning elections then passing commen sense bi partisan legislation.

Something that really could get done is the VA claim system that is a tragedy.

So the overwhelming majority of people want legislation that the Dems did not introduce, and that is somehow the Republicans' fault? What was introduced were gun bans, which are supported by far fewer people than background checks.

That isn't semantics. Those are called facts. What you blame the Republicans for hasn't even been introduced by anybody.

    I didn't blame the Republicans.

    Focus on my words.

I simply said the system is broken.

The entire system is broken because one piece of legislation didn't get passed? The same system that has functioned relatively unchanged since 1789?

I can't wait to hear what you think the proper way to "fix" it would be.

Filibuster reform (for example, requiring an actual speaking filibuster) perhaps?

No, the one piece of legislation is just one additional piece of evidence that the system is broken.

And yes, the system has been functional, in a way, much like one can use a 1986 Chevy pickup for transportation but it has no AC, costs more to maintain than the payment on a new car, pollutes the environment and leaks oil all over the place.

I don't know how to fix it. If I did, I would be a politician. But not knowing how to fix it does not preclude me from recognizing that there are major problems in government and it is progressively getting worse. I can tell you one way to improve it though.

Get the money out of politics. A politician should be a person who looks to improve governing and helps make the system more effective and efficient. There should be no monetary incentive as a result of governing whatsoever. Furthermore there should not be career politicians. There should be term limits on just about everything.
