    No.
Pau may be not far from Howard if healthy. But Josh is garbage. With the same playing time, TRob might be better than Josh already.

Not even close .... TRob has trouble finishing around the rim and has zero range offensively.

Smith is an elite weak side defender and can finish with the best of them at the rim and has a reasonable jumpshot .... While I don't like his shot selection , there is no way TRob is anywhere near the player Smith is right now.

Nope. Dirk, as much as some Rockets fans hate him, was and is a game-changing, take over the game all star.

No way we want Gasol, he's too slow. Y'all need to quit pushin this idea like its a beneficial one. The league is too athletic for a center like Pau. We need a athletic big that'll defend and beat other bigs down the court. Pau looks like a damn dinosaur out there

This gets said a lot, but I'll take it 1 further.

I can't remember anyone outside of Pistons + Rockets who have had only 1 superstar win a title ever.

Stars have and always will win titles. Pau at his peak might have been a superstar, but not anymore.

Uh, the Mavs. It really wasn't that long ago - there's only been one other championship team since then.

Look, I know my idea sucks b/c I didn't familiarize myself with the cap ramifications, etc. and I apologize for that. But Harden, Josh Smith, Gasol, Lin, and I'm betting Parsons, far eclipses Dirk, Tyson Chandler, Terry, etc. in terms of star power, and I'm actually a Dirk fan.

Even if for whatever reason there's a special no-cap season ala NFL a couple of years ago, I'd still be against it. Josh Smith will be getting in the neighborhood of 4yr/$60mil+. Meaning the Rockets will be unable to attempt to sign someone for the future after Gasol gets even older and more crappier than last season.

If the Rockets strike out on CP3/Howard duo, I'd rather than carry the cap over to next year and go after someone besides Josh Smith. But then again, this is based on the assumption that Morey doesn't feel like Josh Smith push us over the top. If he does, I'll take Josh Smith with or without Gasol.

    In a close-prefect-world:

Lakers re-sign DHowrd, and use amnesty on Gasol to save money.

Rockets pick up Gasol around 10m.

Clippers making a mess on the coaching situation, and CP3 is not happy, multiple teams are making strong push to land CP3.

It doesn't look like CP3 is gona stay, Clippers give up hope and shopping him for max return.

Rockets sign & trade CP3 with Lin/Asik/TRob/picks, while kept Parsons.

Now we have a core of
    CP3/Harden/Parsons/Gasol

    good to go!

With the right veterans (Chandler was the 2nd best defensive center in the league at the time) and hot shooting it can be done, but you're really hoping for that 1 time the stars align, whereas if you look at the miami's, okc's, even sas' (and boston and the lakers a few years back), it was barely the end of the world as far as title chances.
