It matters. He could get hurt or just play really poorly that season.

He's been playing in LA for a year, how many commercials/movies have he been in?

LOL, there's NO WAY Howard makes more money in HOUSTON than LOS ANGELES. Maybe through his contract, but the endorsement money he would be passing on would be HUGE.

Howard at 32 years old will not get a max contract. In fact, the lakers will probably be looking to shed that 5th year off their payroll after year 4

Will the rockets also be moving to la to help with the marketing pitch? Anaheim has been looking for a team to play at the pond.

Who the hell is going to endorse him now? L.A is pissed he left the game early. He never got appreciated since he got there. All I heard was how bad he sucked.

Endorsements come with winning. If he stays in LA and continues to lose and is a villain, the endorsement money will be non-existent.

You keep saying that...what endorsements did he get in LA this past season that he couldnt have received in any other city?

    Thanks for trying.

Also, neither does the 4th year from the Rockets, which obviously will be a Player Option rather than straight 4 years. Assuming Dwight feels he can play at a star(not necessarily superstar) level for 3 years, you have to think Howard at 30 is more likely to get a bigger 2nd contract than at 31. Because the Lakers can't let him opt out until year 4.

So really, it's simple. If Howard thinks he can get a 2nd max contract 3 years from now, signing with the Rockets make him more money. If Howard thinks this is his last big contract, then he has to re-sign with the Lakers. Also, if it's the latter, then I would certainly be leery of getting him in the first place.

Good try. He made $2.5m in endorsements in LA. He made $11m in Orlando the year before. So winning is what matters. He makes more endorsement money in LA only if he wins in LA. LeBron, KD, Peyton manning, etc are not in major markets. Also, he would pay 13% more state income taxes on all of his endorsement income, and 0% on his Texas endorsement income.

TMac and Yao had plenty of endorsements while in Houston. Heck, I think even Battier and Hayes had shoe contracts while playing for the Rockets.

His LA $2.4M endorsement was just on Chuck Hayes' level, 1/5 of his Orlando days.

    that's huge failure.

    Can you say...

    TWO MAX NO TAX

If Dwight joins Houston and they play well and become serious contenders, I expect him to get some multimillion dollar contracts in China and the broader Asian continent (given Lin is still on the team)

Well for one, his contract with Adidas gives him far more money if he plays in Los Angeles or New York.

From Woj: "Howard’s next Adidas deal will be worth significantly more money – perhaps even double – if he’s playing in the major market of Los Angeles or New York, sources told Yahoo!"

Given that Derrick Rose recently landed a $250 million contract, we're talking about some serious money. And that's just for his shoe deal.

I wonder what McGrady's Adidas contract was like while he played here. I would think it was pretty fat. The L.A./ NY crap just seems so over rated and with the way information and news has changed, I don't see how those 2 libtard cities still matter. Durant lives in the most Podunk city in all of the NBA and you know the dude is getting paid!

He spent a year in LA and he lost endorsement deals. The shoe deal won't be good unless he is winning. He won't win in LA..so it's pointless to talk about huge endorsement deals.
