McGrady 2.0 is better than "And with the 14th pick..." 3.0.

I dont like the idea of Dwight in Houston. Lets move forward with our young guys and upgrade at the Power Forward position. Someone that slow out team down and can score the ball in a half court set (LMA, Love, Al Jeff) and at least have something to set up. Run and gun will only get you so far and our half-court offense (Iso Harden) was horrible to watch in the playoffs.

Despite all of Simmon's gloom and doom predictions with Dwight, he significantly increased his production after the All-Star break.

He averaged 18.4 pts 13.6 reb 2.6 blks in 28 games after the break.

So he can say he declined all he wants, but Dwight was getting better and healthier as the season went on.

Not saying its not a risk, but its not as bad as he makes it out to be.

Actually, this is no longer a possibility under the new CBA. Teams are not able to sign someone to one of the "franchise max" or "super max" deals and then trade them right away. You can sign someone to a regular max and then trade them, but that is the same max that anyone with cap space can offer the player, so there is no advantage to the player or the new team in doing that.

If Howard wants that "super max" he is going to have to start the season with the Lakers and then wait until signed players can be traded and pout his way out of town -- mind you, I don't put this past him, but there is no way the Lakers are going to be able to rob the Rockets during this latest episode of the Dwightmare Diaries.

the problem is, he doesn't like playing in a pnr system. he wants to play as a traditional, back to the basket big man. the lakers have nash and d'antoni! if he's not happy playing pnr in a d'antoni system with nash no way he's happy playing in our system.

Howard likes Hollywood. If he leaves, he won't be very welcomed there during the off season. BUT, if they keep D'Antoni that gives him a great excuse to bolt.

But he still likes getting the attention and being the biggest show in town so I wouldn't sleep on him going to Atlanta. The Hawks would instantly have the best frontcourt in the NBA and they have a good guard that can get him the ball in the pick and roll and plus they will still have cap space. People make two much of an issue of Harden and Lin being the best pick in roll guards. So what when Howard made it to the finals with Rafer. I actually think Atlanta would be the best fit for him and he would be in the East where the competition isn't as thick as the West.

Rofl, I felt the same way.

The things that give me hope are:

    1) Stars can peak later now because they don't have college, or have less college time. If Simmons mentioned age instead, Hakeem peaked @ 30, yes it was 8 years in the league, but he was 30. Howard is still 27. A lot of miles on him, but big men normally peak later age wise, not years in the NBA wise. (I hope for Dwight's sake).

    2) Hakeem + Mchale combination. Would be perfect for teaching Dwight something he can use as a bigman.

    3) Harden + Dwight's PNR, and Lin + Dwight's PNR would be devestatingly good.

    This...

And I'm sure he won't like Harden dribbling the ball out on the perimeter, unless he enjoyed seeing Kobe doing it.

That article itself contains the answer to the question. The team can just let Brooks and Delfino go, cut some non guaranteed contracts like Andersen and Olbrecht and, if need be, find a taker for Thomas Robinson. Boom. Done. Max money cleared up.

This article was written from a hopeful Mavs perspective as well -- you realize this righ?

Where did you get this from? He may theoretically be the best PnR big man in the league, but he hates the PnR. That's why the Lakers never ran it despite having the most experienced PnR guard in the game. He wants to be the first option and post up, and only wants it done his way.

Can't happen. The new CBA took away the sign and trade where the player can get the extra year and money. There is NO reason for the Rockets to do a sign and trade if Howard wants to come here.

The only thing we'd give them in a sign and trade is a TPE, and the only reason we'd agree to give them a TPE is because they agreed to take Royce White.

If he wants to be in Houston though, he's gotta think that he would be the second option though, right?

He doesn't hate the PnR, he just hates to play too far away from the basket. Someone put up statistics some time ago that had Harden and Howard as two of the best PnR players. In Houston he would get plenty of traditional post ups AND PnRs with two of the best PnR guards (both scoring and passing) - he would basically play in a system that plays to his strengths.

You can blame McHale all you want, but he designed a perfect offensive system for our young guys. He will more than happily adjust it for a big men with an offensive game (and teach Dwight some of his moves).
