It's so weird how the media seems to act like D'Antoni is the only problem in LA.

The owner died and the team has been in disarray since his son has taken the reigns. D'Antoni is just one aspect of that.

    But let's talk about this:

    1. Kobe may not ever be the same player again (Hell, we don't even know if he'll be able to come back successfully at his age).
    2. Steve Nash proved himself to be washed up this season and will only be a year older and slower (and he's on the books for two more years at 9 million per year).
    3. Pau Gasol just had surgery on his knees at age 33.
    4. Metta World Peace is recovering from injury.
    5. Even if they amnesty Kobe, Pau or Metta they are still over the cap and will not be able to add any significant players this season, which means their rebuilding process begins NEXT year.
    6. This effectively means there is no guarantee that the Lakers would be competitive again during the next 5 years.

    To recap:

There are question marks about the ownership.
There are question marks about the head coach/coaching staff.
The entire roster outside of Dwight is either over-the-hill, over-the-hill + injured, or just plain ****ty.
And they'll have no roster flexibility for a minimum of another year.

WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO BE THERE? I know it's the Lakers, but being the face of their sub-par rebuilding years isn't all that glamorous if you ask me.

haha true. but El Segundo, where they practice, is pretty nice. and wherever they live, assuredly NOT downtown LA, is probably really nice

SAS is an insider. He is way more credible than Broussard. Smith actually is friends with a lot of the people in the industry including agents and players.

And people act like the Lakers are immune to rebuilding or something.

    What was the 90s again?

They have been living off of the Kobe Era for all this time. That's what happens when you get a super elite player. Your franchise is relevant until he's gone.

Tired of that. Chicago, Boston, Lakers...all great franchises...but they are not immune to rebuilding. No team is as long as there is a salary cap.

Dwight needs to look at Stephon Marbury...a guy who went to a big market and then just disappeared. The downside is for every failure (and in Lkaer land a failure is not winning a championship) Dwight will be blamed.

    It's not glamorous at all.

Can you be there when Maury does 'the talk' with Dwight?

Lakers won't fire coach. They know that other super stars will want to live in LA. Dwight no re-signing would be just the excuse they need to do a reload, clear some contracts, and try to snag LeDiva in a couple of years.

Why would Lebron go to L.A?

He didn't go to Miami because of the destination. He went there to play with his pals.

His pals won't be in L.A.

Pat Riley gets this. While Wade is slowing down Riley will get another star to Miami...and for Lebron that could be his legacy. He doesn't need the Laker legacy when he can make his own.

I was browsing the Magic forums today and noticed that on the 21st of May,
YaBoyR replied to What are the chances he re-ups with LA?: With

slim. they have a lot of work to do. he's not concerned with the "extra 30 million" he'd lose leaving

    - This is a guy who supposedly has a connection to Dwight if I remember correctly during the whole Orlando fiasco.

Lebron is likely going to go back his hometown team where his team would have three number 1 picks and can compete another title.

There gotta be a rule, where someone tells you there is a 50/50 chance this will happen or not, he is telling you nothing, and hence don't report it.

And what makes you think LeBron will stay in Miami without Wade...? Do you seriously think LeBron is the type of guy to accept Wade being traded when he's ONLY in Miami because of Wade...? I believe LeBron would leave Miami before he would have the guy who brought that city their first championship shipped off, IMO.

And what makes you think Pat Riley can find a better running mate for LeBron than Wade when Houston will have Harden and L.A. will have Howard with both teams having plenty of cap space, and same with Cleveland.

Think you may have hit the nail on the head.

It would be hilarious if Dwight got D'Antoni fired, then bailed anyways. What kind of person would do that? Oh, wait.

Also Stephen A. Smith stopped being a reporter a long time ago. He's strictly an entertainer in my book now. 50-50? Way to go out on a limb.

i feel like i read the same "new" report everyday. bottom line is dwight is a fickle minded individual and im sure he has no idea what he wants to do. ultimately, he'll prob p***y out from joining us cuz of the backlash he might get..even tho we are the better option. wake me up in july. p.s. this isn't meant to bash the thread or OP, just sayin in general...
