If he knows he won't be healthy in four years then he'll stay with L.A. Otherwise, the sky's the limit with a healthy dwight in houston.

    Let's see.

    More money ✅
    Younger team ✅
Not injury prone old people ✅

    Am I missing something?

July couldn't come sooner. The GARM being littered with Howard threads is getting a bit ridiculous, no?

Yeah, It's Dwight Howard. You throw out anything that makes sense with this guy, it doesn't affect his decision making.

Yes in the first 4 years, Dwight will save money in Texas or Florida as a non-state tax paying citizen.

However, the gamble is in year 5.

Basically if you stretch the total earnings over 5 years, and discount the savings from Houston, Dwights gamble is that he will be commanding AT LEAST a 13 to 15 million dollar salary in that 5th year whether it be in Houston or elsewhere.

So the real gamble is whether or not Dwight will be healthy enough to command a 13 million dollar salary when he's a free agent 4 years from now.

You would have to assume as a 31 year old at that time, he should be able to collect that amount the next year.

Its not as much as the 30 million dollars guaranteed that everyone throws out there, but still 13 million dollars isn't something to balk at risking. Its still alot of money to anyone.

He can, and likely would, protect himself from this situation with an opt out in year 3 that lets the Rockets extend him again using bird rights. (Or lets him go through another Dwightmare trying to sign elsewhere)

The bottom-bottom line: He'll make approx 15 million more by playing in LA, with an extra year on the contract

The bottom bottom line: Howard will opt out of the fifth year anyways to get a max extension. Thus the fifth year doesn't matter.
