Tbh, given that Kobe is pretty much done, a lot of them probably feel they should be looking to rebuild, rather than trying to reload with no trade assets and relatively scarce free agent crops the next few years.

If you're going to build a roster of 27 yo player + ????, that player needs to be Lebron James :p

As much as they liked Shaq, it's these drafted lifers like Magic and Kobe that become larger than life in laker land, "Kobe is greater than MJ" vs "Dwight will never lead a championship team".

Rudolph was on radio this morning:

Dwight is fishing and taking his time. Said these leaks and supposed list of teams, not coming from Dwight. You ask "who has an agenda, something to prove" - that's where it's coming from.

Says "anyone with a brain has an understanding that tax wise and cost of living, the advantage is in Texas." It's expensive to live in LA. Houston is a beautiful place but what you can get for $500,000 in Houston is [way higher(millions)] in Cali.

(How important is the money?) Important to everyone else. It's a topic of discussion but Dwight wants to win. Everything financially will take care of itself if he wins. It's the biggest decision of his life. ... This move has to position him to win, an opportunity to compete. You have to position yourself to win. Dwight will pick a team to position himself to win.

(Is he miserable in LA?) I won't say that. That's inaccurate. He wants to win. Important for him to compete. He wants to win. Miserable in LA? No. Hates Mike D'Antoni? No. Beef with Kobe? No. He wants to win. He'll look at all options. He wants to position himself to win. That's what its all about.

As you see above, he reiterated time and time and time again "position himself/yourself to win".

They also had some tax guy - you can read or listen to here.

Also said the whole claim residence in Orlando/Florida-play in LA, probably wouldn't work.

The Californian tax law basically reads "if you work in California, we don't care where you claim residence, we're taxing you on everything", also i assume that 78 vs 86 is prior to the IRS' federal cut, yes?

If winning is all that matters to Dwight, then Houston HAS to be high on his list. I don't think there's a single person out there who doubts that he can be successful here. It's just a matter of whether he's willing to pass up the "legacy" and the "lifestyle" of LA. It's always been about that.

Is this the income tax + the "millionaire" tax mentioned before? I haven't read through everything but seen it mentioned a couple of times.

Yes, basically how it works is Howard will get taxed the full 13.3% on all income due to the Californian tax law if he plays as a laker (so about $12.3m over 4 years, or $17m over 5), whereas in texas (or florida), he would only be paying whatever the state tax rate is on the games he plays in states with taxes (so about $600k over 4 years)

So what it means, in real terms, a 5 year laker deal would be $13m total more than 4 year houston deal, and 4 vs 4, he'd make $8m more in Houston.

Honestly I don't care all that much as I guess I'm suppose to. If he comes here, cool we're instant contenders. If he stays in Laker, alright w.e We'll kick his ass in 2 years in the WCF

I read somewhere Howard is more interested in the Mavs than the Rockets? If that is true, I don't see the logic in that...

Harden>Dirk in this stage of their career.

Dan fegan gets paid his commission based off the before tax amount. Something to consider.

The agent's job is to look out for the best interest of his or her client after they retire. The agent's job is to not take into consideration their commission. Fegan knows this. If he were doing this often and in a malicious way he could lose his certification and in some cases be disbarred.

Let's go disbar some agents and criminal defense attorneys in the offseason for fun.
