Exactly how i feel. rarely do people rock it without one so the back cover to me is irrelevant imo I was thinking about the one however since i came from a htc but the s4 has a ton to offer.
Rumors are there may be a Google version of the HTC One in a couple of weeks. That's about as close to perfection as there is right now. If it's like the S4, the cost will be $50.00 more. Hopefully all manufacturers will offer "Nexus" versions of their phones going forward. I'm still going to wait on the X-Phone and Nexus 5 because their price is expected to be much lower. http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articl...-one-google-edition-rumor-device-released.htm
You're still waiting on the x-phone? it's been pretty much confirmed to be a mid-range device based on the dual core processor. I'm personally gonna go for the S4 Google Edition when it comes out.
HTC Google phone available on a real carrier, unlike the Google GS4 that seems to only be available at retail?
I assume it would be available only at the Play Store. However, if T-Mobile would offer $200 down + 24 monthly payments, I might have to jump in.
I'm confused on your comment. People who buy the unsubsidized version (retail) are douche/snobs? No, they don't all work the same. An AOSP $649 Galaxy S4 (google edition) is without contract, comes bootloader and network unlocked, supports Tmobile and ATT LTE Bands and all without sighing a two year agreement. An AT&T GS4, is none of that. With the exception that it supports the LTE bands of it's native network. My apologies if I'm wrong on what your comments means
Yeah, just sign the contract for 2yrs or be a douche/snob about it and pay $649, brah. Us God fearing folk pledge allegiance to behemoth carriers.
Honestly Sense 5 is so slick and refined that I prefer it to stock in many respects. I'm saying this as someone who ran AOSP ROMs (PA, CM10.1) only on my Galaxy S II for the past year before buying the One.
I wish they put in 4.2.2 with Sense 5 on the HTC One. There is absolutely no excuse for them not to since 4.2.2 was already out for months before the One was released. Sense 5 is awesome and all but I really miss the quick setting panel. I also miss using only one finger to extend notifications.
I have a MyTouch 4G and Sense 4 is quite good IMO. What I'm hearing about Sense 5 is very encouraging. But if you want to stay current with each and every Android update and want to keep your phone 3-4 years, I'd rather go the Google route. It really bothers me Jellybean and the upcoming Key Lime Pie aren't available for my phone. The main reason I'm buying again this year is software. The update history of HTC and Samsung is disgraceful and I'm sick of being left behind.
I received my HTC One yesterday (T-mobile). It's certainly everything I could have asked for, although I need to spend more time to set it up the way I need to. I had the HTC One S and loved that phone until the recent Jelly Bean update which drastically ruined the battery life on this phone. The 4G LTE speeds are great. Apps take a fraction of the time to download for me. I was afraid the size might be too big, but it's just right for me. The front facing speakers are terrific and really make a difference. I haven't played with the camera much yet but certainly plan to. From everything I've read, I don't think either phone would be a bad choice. I will say the recent turmoil at HTC has me a little scared, hoping it doesn't screw up any future upgrades to the software and such.
Is there any reason to wait for a developer edition phone when the bootloader can be unlocked? http://www.droid-life.com/2013/05/23/samsung-galaxy-s4-developer-edition-for-verizon-coming-soon/ http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s4-verizon-dan-rosenberg-213428/ In other news, JLO is now a mobile phone company. This was much more important that giving people an HTC One on VZW. http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-s-big-ctia-event-jlo-does-phones
I played with the HTC one and for the life of me couldn't figure out how to bring up the multi tasking menu. There is a home button and a back button. I hold down the home button and it brings up google now. Can you re-program that w/o having to root and flash?
Double-tap home. You actually get used to it pretty quickly. You can adjust the double-tap duration in settings too if it isn't slow enough for you.
im currently on the sense 5 port on my evo lte (sprint version of htc one) and this is the first "skinned" version of android that i prefer over stock. sense 5 is like the anti-touchwiz: whereas touchwiz is blown out with colors and in your face, sense 5 has become very unobtrusive, an almost minimalist approach. i actually really love the new sense aesthetic. a quick settings panel would be very nice though, but a pretty decent alternative is battery widget reborn. it places a permanent notification that can be customized with all the quick settings toggles you want. EDIT: just realized you were talking about the one and not the one x. you're right, it should have come with 4.2.2. we'll have to see how long that takes for htc to push it out but no one is holding their breath on that..
Does it bother anyone else that since that stupid "power save notification" is always on the notification screen of the HTC One &HTC One X+, it blocks interactive notifications. In Android 4.2 you can just drag it down with one finger to expand the notifcation. In Android 4.1, you have to use two fingers. Drives me crazy, and like another user stated, being able to pull the notiifcation bar back up by touching any part of the notification screen was really nice in 4.2
This S4 is seriously addicting. It BLOWS away the iPhone. My wife was so jealous she ordered one today. My faves- Of course, 4G. I'm a n00b to it and well, it's boss. Our entire system went down today so I just watched a couple of episodes of Mad Men from Netflix and it never had a delay. 1080p screen is awesome. So much lighter than the iPhone, and it doesn't feel like a computer in my pocket although it is. Also LOVE using Google/PC apps instead of the ****ty Apple IOS. I have loathed Apple since the 6.0.2 update. Love the swipe motion. Just swipe your hand over the phone and it shows time/date/missed calls/texts/battery power. It's also now my remote for my TV. It turns it on, changes channels on the Uverse Box and it shows a panel of pics for the shows on. Just awesome. BIG fan of downloading apps without having to enter my "Apple" ID crap. The apps also blow Apple away. I sat for an hour outside and enjoyed the 5.0 scanner hearing all of the cops talk. A.W.E.S.O.M.E conversations. How is this legal? For other noobs, read this and you'll be cooking with peanut oil. Also, the camera is outstanding. So many apps, so clear, perfect. I dig the HTC also, but damn I am happy happy happy that I bought this mini pc! A+++, will buy again.
