wait...haven't PC games always done this with the Serial Codes and having to register online?

    My take on this is

If you buy a house you can resell it.

If you buy this Xbox I'm sure MS won't have a problem with you reselling it.

The only basis they would have for not letting people resell it is the online world they taylor for the individual buying the game.
-Online play could be removed for people that buy used games, and many
people wouldn't object to that, but eliminating resale of any games through
curbing the rules and making their console "Only Online" is just very
disingenuous. Buying a used game for the sole purpose of non-online game
play seems to infringe on the right of being able to sell the property when
you purchase. I hate the gamestops of the world, they are pure evil, but
MS is going to regret this BIGTIME.

I agree with your sentiments. At the very least this will force developers to make games that are worth the 60 bucks we shell out for them. I don't buy used games often but when i do its often from a developer that i generally don't "trust" but still want to give the game a chance.

And if i like the game then i'll be inclined to buy the next iteration outright and not through the used marketplace. Why should i shell out 60 bucks to "try" and see if i like a certain developer's games.

Seriously some people need to get off their high horse and stop grouping people into categories based on their own opinions. We have basic rights as citizens after we purchase a game. I can sell it, break it or hell even use it as a coaster. I OWN it. And the only thing that i agree with that's wrong is pirating the game.

IMO used games are a net good as they bring smaller developers into the spotlight and allow them more exposure for future game sales.

Will you now shed a tear for those whose companies sell used games? Surely, this will hurt them. They may have to cut back on staff or benefits. They're real people. Don't you care about that?

The difference is you can build a gaming pc nowadays and use it for well over a decade. In that timespan 2 or even 3 consoles will have dropped and it will still be able to run those games. They don't break like Xboxes either, but if they do you can fix whatever the problem is without voiding any warranties. I think games are cheaper too, but I haven't been keeping up with the market.

With all these restrictions, I think I'll just stick with my 360.

I'm fine with taking money away from gamestop/etc and giving it to the developers, but you have to think that since games are no longer re-sellable that it will diminish their value and force the sticker price to be reduced.

Thats not a good argument but I agree with the point. PC gaming >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Console gaming. Left my PS3 for PC gaming stretch I had one summer and haven't played anything since. I might get the PS4 or something when I get a better idea. Maybe even the Xbox if MS eases up on their crap.

it's about business model. the only way to see if it pans out is to let the market decide.

i'm predicting people will still buy the new xbox and developers will develop for them if it increases their profits.

I think it's a good argument when you factor in your getting a fast new PC that does everything without limitations as well as a gaming machine. It's all about justifying costs.

Not if more people are buying games new. You don't have to wait more than a few weeks to save $20-$25 when you buy games on eBay. This used market will vanish. I hated dealing with gamestop too, because they screw you.

What about people with money who don't own HDTVs?

Or people who own 3 HDTVs with no money?

I think everyone has at least 2 HDTVs by now. So, let's just say people with money. That's funny considering well over the majority of their current market is kids in elementary-middle school and teenagers with no jobs.

Look - I get that folks want to save money, but you like playing online, right?

Maintaining those servers cost money, so when you buy a used game you are basically playing online for free.

People are panicking about this, but I can't wait, and if MS is smart they will not charge a large fee for a used product, something like $10 to activate it, which will force Gamestop to lower their profit margin.

Did you guys know that Gamestop makes more than 85% of its profit margin from USED games, thus taking up all of the shelf space for those products and pushing new game shelf space down to a bare minimum.

I know it seems bad, but in the end, everyone will benefit from this, except Gamestop.

Won't work on XBox live, or servers - some small minority will always get through but the general public will not be savvy enough to do it.
