I fully agree Apple's not at fault here - see my first post. But to claim they're being punished is ridiculous.
They are being punished IF THEY LEAVE THEIR MONEY HERE. Thus they don't. They take advantage of the loophole to avoid the punishment. That's the point.
Matters how? The vast majority of Apple and tech sector employees are very progressive. Check the split on how Google donates money in terms of Democrats and Republicans, for example. You think Rand Paul's heroic stand for Apple will outdo crazy bones social conservative policies, blatant disregard for the environment, and barely-hidden hostility to immigrants, as well as blatant disregard for the effects of the credit economy? Have you ever been to Palo Alto? Check out the Model S cars next time you go. Check out the people driving them. They're the people creating great visions and ideas---the Elon Musk-types. They're also the people who continue to destroy the Republican party---whether it's through money contributions, or data strategies that lead to the most terrifying ground-day game in election history for the Democrats, and a misfire for the Republicans. did you just pick up a book on Freud or something? anyways, keep on admiring the liberal Palo Alto gauche caviar, they're about as likely to elect Rand Paul into office as an Apple product is actually going to sell for what it's worth (zing). *Hope that spreads the rounds at Apple offices
Apple executives for the most part enjoy the rights and benefits afforded by the United States. Apple as a corporation benefits from the protections of the United States, world wide. Offshoring while legal, does shift the cost of corporate benefits onto other taxpayers. It is reasonable for the American people to consider if corporations are paying their fair share and if we should adjust our tax laws to address any unfairness. But, it's cheaper for corporations to just buy Congressmen.
It is totally reasonable for the American people to consider if corporations are paying their fair share and if tax laws should be adjusted. They are decidedly not paying their fair share and tax laws should absolutely be adjusted. Congress would rather rake the companies over the coals for taking advantage of those loopholes then lead to correct the issue they're b****ing about. In fact, they're the only body that has the power to change this...and they'd rather deflect. Embarassing.
the solution is a national sales tax at first point of sale, no exemptions Everyone is treated the same, very transparent and easy/efficient to collect, no need to collect people's personal financial data (just sales receipts). Companies will flock to our country with no payroll/income/profit taxes. No need for a 401k or fear of removing money from it, since all income/savings is tax free. No more wasted billions and inefficient business decisions trying to comply with the tax code.
Cause you have people who think they are paying their fair share or shouldn't have to pay anything. Meanwhile, Congress is just trying to appease the dumb little guy to make it look like they care. None of them give a **** about any of us.
The irony of this is that Rand Paul would agree. I believe that was one of the points he ran for Senate on.
right, instead of solving the problems with the tax code, let's just get rid of it. Paulites. sigh. well, no quicker way to abolish the military then to starve it of money, ditto for research, education, border services, healthcare and infrastructure. I guess that'll be one way of punishing Apple. America can always starve them of qualified workers and buyers. How high does your sales tax have to be? Can you at least run a mild bit of Excel projection so you can see why this won't work at all?
Paying taxes isn't punishment or harassment. I don't have a loophole to not pay my taxes but a billion dollar company does? Thanks to Rand Paul for standing up for the billionaires.
Because it is a dog and pony show. I don't mind pointing out to people that the corporate tax structure may be unfair, but APPLE just followed the law.
That's your problem, you see everything in terms of tribes. Rand Paul is standing up for ideas, not a specific person or group.
Dude you're on another planet. You want no taxes, free for all capitalism, and social Darwinism because you're about "ideas". Good luck with that.
