To me, this is fantastic news:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Talked to Mitch Kupchak about his private exit meeting with Dwight Howard. Mitch: "There was no discussion of the coach whatsoever." <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23lakers">#lakers</a></p>&mdash; KEVIN DING (@KevinDing) <a href="https://twitter.com/KevinDing/status/337019204563787776">May 22, 2013</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Kupchak said he is not concerned about that relationship and "absolutely" believes Howard and D'Antoni can grow a strong coach-star bond.</p>&mdash; KEVIN DING (@KevinDing) <a href="https://twitter.com/KevinDing/status/337025102178820096">May 22, 2013</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Of course the Lakers aren't going to throw Dwight under the bus when there's still a chance he could re-sign. But Kupchak referencing the Dwight-D'Antoni relationship in a positive light isn't something he'd do if they were about to play the Phil card. The fact that Kupchak responded to a reporter today, after all the new Dwight reports, and said all this essentially confirms what he said a month ago: D'Antoni is back.

    Your move, Dwight

I think it depends on the player. The Lebron/Durant types, I think would benefit from going to the Lakers to some extent. Even if the overall team is mediocre, like the Kobe mid-2000s years. But Howard as the only star on the Lakers to me doesn't scream endorsement. He's a big and not exactly a highlight reel.

Fegan probably has crunched all the numbers and knows more or less what the difference in endorsement money is. But I can't imagine it being that big between the two cities.

Dwight is not Hayes... Dwight is already bigger anywhere in the world than any Rocket. Bigger than Harden, Lin, McHale anyone.

I know Dwight had a top 10 international selling jersey last year, and no one on the Rockets were on that list.

Dwight really doesn't need anyone to help grow his popularity, all he needs is to win games.

I mean why do people keep saying Lin would help so & so in CHina? Lin has got to be more popular in the states then he is in China, he had the #2 jersey last year in the US, but didn't make the top sellers list internationally.
Now this year with Lin gone the Knicks are now the richest team passing the Lakers and have the top selling team jersey, and the top selling player jersey in Melo.

According to the annual SI list Dwight made $11 million, which is in line with Wade/Durant, in his last year with Orlando and dropped to something like $2.5 million this year with LAL.

    Agreed on this....

Market is so overrated when it comes to the best player at his position.

Isn't much science to it.....if you are a beast, you will be noticed and get paid regardless of where you play.

Durant plays in OKC, but yet he does not at all go unnoticed.

    Players know the deal.

If you beast, they will come...

    THE END.

Howard's background has him in front of 4 Laker greats, right?

Maybe someone should make a pic of him informs of four great Rocket big men (Hayes, Malone, Olajuwon, Yao) and tweet that to him.

I mostly agree with this, but also agree with what meh said. I just want to point out to you liveguy that meh was sort of saying the opposite of what you're "purportedly" agreeing to when quoting him haha.

the power to **** with the coach is given dwight by the superstar admirers all over country. he knew he could get away with it because people appreciates his talents over anything else. He didnt need to be a sportman, even a man. He could do whatever he wants wherever he wants. Same point of view is shared by many rox fans now. Nobody cares if he destroys the team or coach somehow if he can do some crazy stuff sometimes in court.

If i were a gm, i wouldnt let in that actress even in taiwanese 2nd league. be a man, then be a baller.

Hahaha....hence I only quoted the portion I truly agreed with.

I think people overrate/overhype location way too much.

Dwight is the best player at his position when healthy, so I'm sure if he played like the superman days....he will get the fringe endorsement loot, regardless.

    Durant does.

Winning gets attention and attention gets you deals.

    Just win, baby! (c) Al

My favorite parts of that story...

"...he voiced displeasure with coach Mike D’Antoni and his deference to Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash as team leaders.

Then, of course, there are the factions of Kobe and Dwight, which by late April looked to be locked in all-out war. In the Lakers’ final game, the injured Bryant came to the bench only after Howard had been ejected, drawing speculation that the veteran didn’t want to be in the locker room when the center arrived. There was also the reported All-Star Game cold war, in which Howard mocked Bryant in the locker room, and Bryant, having gotten wind of the comments, moved his possessions to another spot. So sure, Bryant is tweeting rainbows and butterflies, but behind closed doors, it can hardly be so simple."

Sounds like Howard doesn't like Kobe and Nash.
I heard an interview with Nash recently, when he was asked about Howard, Nash basically rambled on about the tough season and injuries and finally meekly said, "I hope he comes back" It really sounded weak to me and I think maybe Howard and Nash don't really care for each other.

What do we expect Mitch Kupchak to say when asked if Howard complained about MDA, Kobe and Nash?

There is nothing for Kupchak to say but deny it. He is not stupid and doesn't give away much.

And I'm guessing(and could be wrong) that Kobe during the Lakers stretch of 1st round exits did not make him any less endorsement money. If that's the case, then Howard really needs to go to a winner because that seems to help his income a lot more.

Kobe did lose a lot of endorsements in that time period... but that was because of the rape trial.

Howard not only needs to go to/be a winner he has to be the face of that team also to boast his image back up, like Kobe did.

CBS is rolling with the Ken Berger story. Analysts posture is that Dwight is walking from LA, most likely to Houston.
