Honestly with every day that goes by I'm more and more convinced that DH and Fegan are just using the Rox as bait to leverage more power and influence over the Lakers. Consider the following: 1. Lakers can offer DH more front up money and more money via endorsements. IIRC, the guaranteed money was the main reason why Morey and co. were dead-set on trading DH even if he and his agent were threatening they would leave in 1 year. Now that the shoe is on the other foot though, DH will turn down both the money and the glitz and glamor to go to Houston? 2. Fegan doesn't like Morey 3. LA still has talent, and will be clear of Kobe and Gasol's contracts in 2 years. So yeah, I don't think DH will turn down the $$$ to go to H-town, esp. when he himself is a bigger "star magnet" than Harden. Who's to say he can't lure LBJ to go to LA?
If Dwight leaves, he'll forever become a punchline in L.A. I think that's gotta weigh heavily on his mind. He'd have to win, like, 2 championships in a row in Houston a la Hakeem in order to get the respect from Lakers fans again (and there are many of those).

He would make more money in Houston per year than in LA because of no state tax or millionaire's tax. Howard's endorsements plummeted from 12 million (Orlando) to 2 million (LA). Image and winning has a larger part to do with marketability than simply residing in a big market (ask Durant). 2. Fegan doesn't like Morey That maybe so, but a decision as big as this largely resides with Dwight himself. Fegan can try and influence him but in the end is there as Dwight's representative and to do the paperwork. 3. LA still has talent, and will be clear of Kobe and Gasol's contracts in 2 years. Dwight wants to win now. Kobe is likely out for the season. Gasol is in his final year next year (not 2 years). The team will be rebuilding after that. The future in LA is very very uncertain and looking old and bleak. Don't forget Nash is contracted for the next two years at $20 million. Wait, what? And the money is actually very close. Unless Dwight basically falls flat on his face (or injuries end his career) to not earn another contract he would make more in the long run in Houston. The money is better as an Fegan argument.
The rest of the WC is getting younger with teams like Golden State, OKC, Denver and Houston. The Lakers' aging vets and scrub bench players have no chance at running with those guys. Howard should think long and hard about that before signing up to play with the geriatric ward out there in LA.
Why would LBJ go to a rebuilding Lakers team when he has a good thing going in Miami, especially when he has redeemed himself in the eyes of many fans?
