Around 5-6 games at the UH Rec Center... in the black courts. Yes, that's right. We had 3 really good black dudes, a white guy, and me. All were at least like 6' something. My role was mostly supporting my teammates via verbal encouragements and high fives. Sometimes I'd bring up the ball to half court. It's great how being "next" could get you real good teammates.

After like the 5th or 6th game, we went to get a drink and everyone sorta shook hands and dispersed. We haven't lost yet. I was like noooo...

That's the norm though...5-7 against relatively even competition, which is why the 14-game win streak I went on was so remarkable to me. Something like that may never happen again for the rest of my life.

It's not exactly like the thrill of winning an oscar, winning a sports title or being named class valedictorian on the scale of life achievements and memorable events but still awesome to look back on.

I don't like 2's much in pickup games because its the equivalent of a 4 point shot in real basketball. Though pickup ball can get really physical, so for health and injury avoidance its probably good that the outside shooting is encouraged.

MANY years ago, it was a team of a bunch of white dudes against the "hood" tough black ballers, 1 team a dude who played in college. (I was on the "white" team). People thought we wouldnt win a game, getting heckled.

We won the last 6 games to close out the night before it got dark and everyone went home, so we left on top (and good thing cuz we were GASSED lol). They all knew each other, so they had some chemistry. I didnt know them they picked me up. But I fit into that unit nice with usual "glue guy" play. We won with unselfishness, passing and not turning the ball over mostly. (No 2's either, just 1's). Was the proudest pick-up ball moment I had.

Kinda hard to compare it to an NBA team, more like the usual underdog college team. Probably like if this year's Timberwolves was actually good. Or possibly the Rockets post-Yao winning on "intangibles".

Idk I play regularly and I'm in great shape. After five games or six games I have no energy. 15 games seems unrealistic

Those five or six games take 3 hours. 30 mins per game usually. So you played 7 hours of ball without a break damn.

    1. I usually get teamed up with some sorry players so we don't have a "good" team to keep winning. We only win if the sucky players make some miracle threes or shots.

LerBon, Kobe, and Lin would have willed their teams to a win. You're not a superstar leader.

In school I would play pickup at the rec with 4 other managers from the basketball team and we would occasionally go on some decent runs just due to the fact that we were all pretty decent and had familiarity with each other. We probably won 5 or 6 in a row a few times.

I actually think it's more enjoyable when you have a relatively empty gym and you're able to run it back a few times against an evenly matched squad. Those back and forth games tend to be the most fun.

True. The average seems to be about 2 games per hour for me. 14 games seems like a ton.

Well, I'm talking sucky. Like shooting it over the backboard. Or taking a shot without even looking at the basket first.

LOL, I told you I was done for next two days and we completely fell off the Earth in the 15th game against a team full of fresh players in their first game. Plus, we replaced our post player after about 8 games (something like Yao going down halfway through the 22-game winning streak). I was in great condition with an even better diet back then, so it was realistic for me.

Our whole run only lasted about 3, maybe 3 1/2 hours. IIRC, we only played to 12 points-to-win, not 15. There was lots of great 3-point shooting.

Not sure about pickup games, but we had a 10-gamer in the league I play in. Started the season 1-2, then won 10 straight (incl playoffs) to take the league title. Not bad for a bunch of old dudes.
