You don't think Frank or Gentry is obtainable? Maybe not.... honestly would rather Nurse of Bickerstaff promoted.

People thinking why didn't any other team contact Finch needs to remember this.

Finch is one of two Rockets assistants. Sampson was the lead assistant. Finch is untested at the NBA level, having basically been an NBA assistant for 2 years.

If we do lose Sampson and McHale doesn't resign due to family reasons, I hope we can hire P.J. Carlesimo as lead assistant. Great experience, really softened as a coach and now is considered a players' coach, and probably isn't a likely candidate to be a head coach somewhere else (ie we'd have better continuity).

I'm still not confident how much our team's success related to McHale. Sampson has always come across as much smarter and capable than McHale, but as Morey and others have hinted before, McHale is more of a figure-head + former player that players can relate to.

But we need a real lead assistant with NBA coaching experience (at least at the lead assistant level for several years), not Finch/Bickerstaff who are way too inexperienced especially with a head coach just as inexperienced.

P.J. Carlesimo seems like a good candidate for lead assistant.

I would guess Finch needs to work his way up to lead assistant coach first, and that could take another 3-4 years at least. Then things would have to break the right way for him (and probably the wrong way for the Rockets) for him to have a chance at the head coaching job.

I think Sampson is a fine candidate as head coach. I would still take McHale over him though.

Either way he deserves the opportunity to be a head coach somewhere in the NBA so congrats to him if he gets signed to be one.

Sampson apparently is/may be also in the mix for the Suns head coaching gig. It sure would appear that he's pretty much guaranteed to be gone with as many teams interested.

(There's no source cited, obviously, but the guy generally only tweets about stuff he has info on.)

Hypothetically, can a team say no when another FO asks to interview staff members?

No ****, but I doubt Phil is salivating over the chance to coach Bismack Biyombo and the Bobcats.

If you said defense I would have lol'd with you, this is by far the dumbest comment I've seen in this thread.

Now I really hate the Sixers. Sam Hinkie must of made that move.

Morey didn't settle a no-poaching policy with Hinkie?

Wow. Hinkie is going to go full Morey-ball, something I think Morey probably wishes in some ways that he could have done.

The key is still to find superstars, no matter what. But this is interesting. So much for coach-in-wAiting.

WTF sixers...... After all the crap they were talking about the Rockets, analytics, and more ball. They start stealing the staff? They're now in my hated enemies list.

It's not "they." It was Doug Collins. No longer with the team.

What the hell???.... Have we become the new Spurs or something where half the league poaches everyone from the front office and coaching staff?

Seriously though, losing this guy would really hurt. He's going to end up being a top notch coach in the league one of these days.

Bima Thug- Better get your resume ready.... Morey's going to need your services here pretty soon if the poaching continues.

We need somebody as good as Thibodeau to fix our D. We might want to look at assistant coaches from Spurs and Pacers. Maybe they're available...

Mike Malone is only leaving the Spurs for a head coaching job with a good team. He's been due for years now, and I think he's actually turned down a few offers as well.

Sampson is a fine defensive coach. This team would be a pretty decent defensive team if their style of play suited it. In the half court, they are actually ranked pretty high. Its the style of play that lends to bad defensive stats.

PJ will only come if we get Dwight and Smith/Millsap.

It is not a four gong conclusion.
