Considering that Lin's about an average to slightly above average PG as of right now, anyone who is "5x better" than he is has got to be at superstar level.

So which superstar PG did the Rockets have on their roster for less than $8 million? Chris Paul? Derrick Rose? Rajon Rondo? My, Morey really screwed that one up, didn't he?

Great post. Lin always brings out the best of his teammates from Tyson Chandler to Chandler Parsons.

I think you need to clarify the statement that Jeremy Lin was the second Asian-American in the NBA. Wat Misaka played for the Knicks way back in the early days but only last three games. Rex Walters (half white / half japanese) had an eight year or so career in the NBA.

I'm not going to claim to speak for ALL Lin fans, but Jeremy Lin is the first Asian AMERICAN (born and raised in the US) basketball "star" we've ever had. Yao was good but he was born in China. Jeremy Lin (unlike Walters) LOOKS like an Asian.

Many Asian-Americans have always felt they are overlooked on the athletic front. A Yao Ming type helped things but he was a giant. Jeremy Lin is "only" 6'3" but proved that a fairly normal Asian-American kid can play in the NBA.

Asian-Americans play a lot more basketball than many people realize. During Memorial Day, there will be the 33rd Annual North American Chinese Basketball Invitational Tournament in Minnesota. According to the organizers, 64 teams from all over the US / Canada will be participating.

There are many Chinese players that have played in the tournament that played in college at the lower levels (D2, NAIA, JC). There are few players that have played oversees including a 6'6" Over 40 guy that played in the Chinese Basketball Association in China. One interesting story involves a now 43 year old guy I know.

The guy was about 6 foot tall and was quite a ball player. He made an impression at City College of San Francisco and played at UC Davis (then Division II). After college, he played with friends in the many Asian tournaments throughout California. But he also played with a well known Bay Area the "San Francisco Saints" in the Chinese National Tournament.

Story has it that some scouts from the Taiwanese Pro League saw this guy played and signed him to a contract back in the late 1990's. He definitely played in Taiwan as there are "trading card" photos of the guy that I saw online.

My point is that there is a huge swelling of basketball fans among Chinese / Asian Americans. A lot of people don't realize this as it's not mainstream. But understand WHY there is so much support for Jeremy Lin. I may not agree with some of the fans say but regardless, there is a reason for the support.

I don't understand why people keep comparing to Lin a ball dominated PG. If you want to compare, compare it Apple to Apple. That's it, when Lin is allows to dominated the ball.

If this actually happens then I see Lin's numbers jumping up a bit. One thing about Howard is that he catches lobs and passes in traffic very well.

    You're assuming two things here:

    1) American Football is popular in China, which it isn't. There was already a professional basketball league and national team, which Yao played in, even before Yao made it to the NBA. Just compare Dat Nguyen's hype to Jeremy Lin's and it isn't even close.

    2) That being Asian automatically gets you the attention internationally. I say it depends on the sport and nationality/ethnicity that is connected to it. A good Filipino basketball player doing well in the NBA? absolutely because basketball is already widely popular in the Philippines. There's also a huge population of ethnic Han Chinese which absolutely helped Lin. Any other country that could care less about basketball or doesn't have huge numbers in population to boost the marketability, it won't be the same and the world will be just fine.

    Who's comparing?

Someone said Lin's teammates are a downgrade so I said that Lin is a downgrade to them as well o_O.
