I still believe. Guy is young and has offensive skills. Give him some time.

We all pretty much knew that Terrence and his body would be more NBA ready at this point.

D-Mo's upside was always much higher. It's just going to take time. He will fill out, play in the flow and put up numbers eventually... if we keep him. The aforementioned low post game, his speed, and the J that people are hammering him about are going to pay big dividends IMO.

I still think he will be a viable role player. No more than that. Many here are discounting the fact that he has been playing with his countries professional team for a while. He should have been better. At least in the second half of the season. Instead, he got worse.
Still he is young and will get better in time. I just don't think he will be in Houston long enough for us to benefit from it.

    Dirk's rookie stats: 8.2 pts, 3.4 rebs, 1 ast. While shooting 40.5, 20.6, 77.3. playing 20.23 mins.

Not what anyone would call impressive. What's up with all these posters giving up on players after just their rookie season. Not saying DMo will be as good as Dirk, but let's give him a little more time to see what he is capable of before pronouncing him a failure.

He has all the skill it take to be dominant on the offensive end in this league. He just needs the strength to battle in the paint. Or at least some playing time so he can learn to use his quickness to get to his spots. People give up WAY too quickly on players, it's his first freaking year for crying out loud. Geeze, I mean look at Hibbert and Bynum, took them at least 3 years to be what they are now. If they were on this team their first 3 years people would be calling them busts.

potential is the most common commodity in the NBA. Plenty of players have a lot of potential, but only a very small percentage of players ever manage to transform their potential into on court production.

Since I'm not a 40%er, I never got a chance to see D MO in action when he was starting, I'm assuming that he looked lost most of the time, but did he at least show flashes? Did he look better than David Andersen?

I totally agree when it comes to athletic potential. Tons of dudes with physical qualities to be great in the league. The thing with D-Mo is he is SKILLED..... Most of the time, I see untapped potential in guys that are as athletic as hell but can't (or won't b/c of bad work ethics/attitudes) master basketball skills. With D-Mo, it's the opposite. He has the skills - and even the work ethic by everything we've read - he just needs to bulk up. I think it's a lot easier to bulk up than master the footwork and shooting touch of a post player. D-Mo is almost like the inverse of Howard in some ways.

Coach, your pessimism toward him seems largely based on the fact that he played professionally overseas and you believe that he should have been better prepared for the NBA. But...when you look at rookies in the past from overseas, have you seen the foreign players to be quicker to produce? Only one that always comes to mind for me is Dirk - and he took more than a season. Trying to think of other examples, but I'm drawing a blank on other examples.

Also, I think everyone should remember that Morey said D-Mo was not ready for the NBA when he was first impressing in Summer League.

Bottom line: I hope the dude can one day draw a double team in the post. I've got my fingers crossed. BUT if the dude could just raise his 3 point percentage up about 5 points, I'm willing to bet the Rockets would start him - barring any new PF's brought on board. Coaching staff loves the stretch 4. If I was DMo, I'd just be doing squats, eating, practicing the corner 3, repeat....

Don't know if the current coaching staff will be able to get him to that level but I do believe he has the tools and just needs playing time and to bulk up.

well said. In other words, if we can get a good deal shipping him off. we wont really miss him.

I dont think his potential to do great is good enough to hold on to him. but i wouldn't mind seeing him play every now an then. Im curious as to why Coach didnt play him much or at all toward the end of the season.

first time i met clutchfans, was the time i wanted how rockets people feel about ömer, then i signed up because some people wanted to know about furkan aldemir and i told them how he is.

but even back then i said hey why you guys curious about furkan? you already have d.mo
i watched him 2 years earlier than he joined draft, so i knew he would last long in nba even before he got any minutes.

donatas has many tools to be successful. he can do many things right. Rockets and him are going to shape up his game to adjust nba somehow. One way or another, he will remain in nba.

he can bulk up and be an inside presence, or he can develop more reliable outside shooting and versatilility to become an offensive threat. Anyway that he chooses, he can be at least a role player and remain in nba. His game can go too many directions so his ceiling is unpredictable right now.

He showed flashes as a starter. Better than Anderson as a scorer. He was very poor at rebounding. Defense was weak, but at least he tried hard on that end.
