Enough deflection already. Not a single Libo on this board has commented on the acting commissioner of the IRS resigning.

I don't know what bible prophecy says about it but it sounds like he lied to Congress and now has been fired/resigned. Glad I could clarify it for you.

BTW, nobody is deflecting anything. It's just that you've shown up here and posted a bunch of trash the last few weeks so there's no incentive to take your feigned outrage seriously. Ted Cruz 2016!!!!

First, never once have I wanted or said Ted Cruz should run for president.

    Nice try though.

To the point, the IRS commissioner who resigned was already scheduled to end his term in June. He even sent an email and said he would be leaving because it was the end of his term.

How about the new person in charge of Obamacare is the person who was in charge the division that targeted conservative groups, which the count is now at about 477.

Interested to hear more about the IRS lady who now is spearheading Obamacare. Did she know? If so, probably need to appoint someone else.

The list keeps growing...no idea if the WH knew anything...realize conservatives are drooling at the prospect. Either way, just cannot believe this has gone on.

This is one I thought might actually hold up as a scandal, but it's quickly turning into much ado about nothing.

All of the tea party groups got their tax exempt status. Some Democratic groups were denied the status.

The guy from the IRS who was in charge of these cases at the time of the applications wasn't even an Obama appointee, he was a Bush appointee.

All of these recent scandals are quickly evaporating into nothing.

There are legitimate things that should be scandals. Obama's wiretapping, Obama's policy on justification for killing U.S. citizens that are supposedly enemy combatants, Obama's strong arm tactics which seem to clearly be aimed at silencing whistle blowers, etc. The things that Rhad often posts about on these boards are much more scandal worthy than the crap being trotted out lately.

I think it is interesting how Steven Miller from the IRS keeps dancing around questions. Something certainly seems strange, but who knows where it will go.

who cares about political affiliation? it is still *****ed up and wrong. I wish more people would stop thinking in terms of repub/demo when it comes to this stuff and focus on what is actually happening instead of attacking each other and looking the other way or stating "the other side is still worse"

The whole idea of this scandal is about political affiliation. The idea that the IRS would target political enemies is what the scandal is, and that's what's potentially wrong about it.

So you may not care about political affiliation, but if you don't, then you don't care about this scandal at all.

Flashback: Schumer, Franken urged IRS to target tea party in 2012
    2:09 AM 05/17/2013

Long before the Internal Revenue Service revealed it had improperly targeted conservative 501(c)(4) groups, a group of Democratic senators led by New York Sen. Chuck Schumer urged the IRS to do just that.

The IRS’s admission last Friday that it had singled out tea party and other groups for extra audits and delays has raised concerns that President Barack Obama’s administration quietly attempted to stymie opponents through intimidation. But many prominent Democrats — including Montana Sen. Max Baucus, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State and the New York Times editorial board — had been publicly calling for tighter restrictions on 501(c)(4) groups affiliated with the tea party and conservatives.

Last year, Schumer, along with Democratic Sens. Michael Bennet, Sheldon Whitehouse, Jeff Merkley, Tom Udall, Jeanne Shaheen and Al Franken, penned a letter calling on the agency to cap the amount of the political spending by groups masquerading as “social welfare organizations.”

A press release from Schumer’s office dated March 12, 2012 laid out the terms of the letter:

The senators said the lack of clarity in the IRS rules has allowed political groups to improperly claim 501(c)4 status and may even be allowing donors to these groups to wrongly claim tax deductions for their contributions. The senators promised legislation if the IRS failed to act to fix these problems.
“We urge the IRS to take these steps immediately to prevent abuse of the tax code by political groups focused on federal election activities. But if the IRS is unable to issue administrative guidance in this area then we plan to introduce legislation to accomplish these important changes,” the senators wrote.
The letter cited a March 7, 2012 New York Times article by Jonathan Weisman that suggested donations to groups like American Crossroads and Priorities USA could be tax deductible, which was a primary concern of those senators at the time.

A number of those senators participated in a press conference about their efforts on March 21, 2012, and Franken spoke out about what he called lack of oversight of 501(c)(4) status.

“I think that there hasn't been enforcement by the FEC and the IRS, and so there are entities that are taking a 501(c)4 status, and under that they’re supposed to have more than half of their activity be non-political,” Franken said. “That’s pretty hinky. I mean, they really aren't doing that, and that I think there needs to be a look at that — that even under the laws that already exist, there are people who should be disclosing who aren’t. And I think that is where we’re seeing the effect of — lack of effective enforcement and just oversight.”

Report: IRS Deliberately Chose Not to Fess Up to Scandal Before Election
"f this fact came out in September 2012, in the middle of a presidential election? The terrain would have looked very different."

    8:36 AM, MAY 17, 2013 • BY DANIEL HALPER

NBC's Lisa Myers reported this morning that the IRS deliberately chose not to reveal that it had wrongly targeted conservative groups until after the 2012 presidential election:

The IRS commissioner "has known for at least a year that this was going on," said Myers, "and that this had happened. And did he share any of that information with the White House? But even more importantly, Congress is going to ask him, why did you mislead us for an entire year? Members of Congress were saying conservatives are being targeted. What's going on here? The IRS denied it. Then when -- after these officials are briefed by the IG that this is going on, they don't disclose it. In fact, the commissioner sent a letter to Congress in September on this subject and did not reveal this. Imagine if we -- if you can -- what would have happened if this fact came out in September 2012, in the middle of a presidential election? The terrain would have looked very different."

More and more I have to ask myself what is the scandal here? After Citizen’s United and the proliferation of conservative groups claiming tax exempt status, it seems the IRS was just doing its job.

Well it's clearly big enough for Obama to blast the IRS and force the head of the IRS to step down.

There needs to be more investigation into exactly what was going on. That Miller guy is either a completely incompetent boob or something strange was going on. I highly doubt a man of his credentials just suddenly became incompetent. His statements were just odd to me and him blaming the problems on horrible customer service was just strange.

I mean if it was only "horrible customer service" then why did Obama fire this guy immediately after this scandal became public? I'm just confused on it all.

Because the crazies needed a lynching.

The horrible customer service seems like just a few overworked government workers who got a little over zealous and overstepped the guidelines. Certainly nothing dark and nefarious. You have to remember there were hundreds of these groups claiming exempt status after Citizen’s United and saying they weren’t political activists when we can clearly see that they were. No one was denied the exempt status it just took a little longer for them to get it.
