Life of Pi - 8 out of 10. Great bit of story-telling and for the most part excellent film (a few slow sections, acting was a bit uneven, and a few places where the CGI slipped). The Impossible - 8 out of 10. A surprise... a gutwrenching movie, star turn for Naomi Watts (Ewan McGregor's performance struggled to keep up). Remind me to avoid travel to Thailand. Strong recommendation.
Oz the Great and Powerful: 8/10 Evil Dead: 7/10 Oblivion: 7.5/10 Filly Brown: 6/10 Iron Man 3: 7.5/10 42: 7/10 The Great Gatsby: 7.5/10 Disconnect: 8/10 I have movie pass.
Superman Unbound – Another DC produced DTV movie which surprisingly isn't produced by Bruce Timm. As a result it's a bit of a letdown. Seemed like a pretty straightforward Braniac story that probably could have been done in the JLU series. It’s ok but not close to the quality of the last few movies, might just be me since I really never cared for Superman / Supergirl solo stories. C
Jack Reacher: 7/10 good premise, but slow and drawn out Zero Dark 30: 8.5/10 Didn't think I would like it as much as I did
The Island. 6/10. It's terrible but for some reason it's also stupid fun at the same time. Nice sound track.
Parker: 6/10 --- The characters and dialog are good, but the plot is weak, which is doesn't matter too much, because you wont see this kind of movie in cinema. The only thing that help this movie is called Jason Statham, nough said.
Star Trek - Into Darkness 9.5/10 OUT. STAND. ING. Absolutely fantastic. I don't give it a 10/10 simply because I can't for purely philosophical reasons, in that I hesitate to designate ANYTHING as completely perfect. But this movie.. wow. I will dig up the Star Trek thread and give a proper review there. Home run, JJ. An out-of-the-park, walk-off grand salami.
Pain and Gain - 4/10. Train wreck, horrible horrible movie. The Great Gatsby - 6/10. A big flashy mess. What the hell was that? Jay Z music at 1920's parties? Leo trying to actually be Robert Redford. Cheesy ass "old sport" lines. Gawd... I fell asleep halfway through. I never saw the original but damn it has to be better than this film. I'm also sick of hearing Tobey Maguire narrations. American Me - 7/10. I'd never seen this before, stars Edward James Olmos. It's kind of a Latino Goodfellas, certainly not as good but I enjoyed it.
Really good in Michael Bay's standards is like a 6/10... an OK would be like a 2/10. So if it's bad in his standards, then that means somebody should probably be executed.
LOL... great review. I am more excited about seeing movies now with this one and also "Now You See Me" with Harrelson and Eisenberg (soon becoming my favorite duo).
The Hangover: Part 3 - 3/10 I expected it to be terrible, and it was terrible. That's all that really needs to be said.
Oblivion 8/10 Although it had similarities to other films of the genre in the last 15 years, the lush visuals and electronic score combined with solid acting by Tom Cruise made this enjoyable. I would have modified the ending to be like the final scene in Sunshine from 2006. Watch this in theaters! Although, I believe it was the last show in the Houston area because no theaters have it playing anymore.
the details - pretty good warm bodies - meh identity theif - one time watch django unchained - great silver linings playbook - boring frankie go boom - meh movie 43 - wtf 21 & over - one time watch
save the date - good movie what i do is go to moviefone and just download whatever seems interesting or familiar form trailers, i end up watching a ton of movies i would have never seen otherwise.. a ton of movies are shiit, then some are really good like sleepwalk with me, and save the date..
Jack Reacher - 7 out of 10. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but basically a Tom Cruise vehicle with a fairly pedestrian supporting cast of mostly television actors and actresses. Great action and the usual flip comedy lines thrown in. And for the ladies (and Cruise's ego), a few shirtless scenes.
