I remember Tim Duncan also wavering between going to Orlando (to join Grant Hill or maybe TMac) or staying with San Antonio.
Didn't San Antonio also offer him like half of what Orlando had? (I remember it being something like 4 year $45m vs something like 5 yr $100m, and this was his first non rookie contract.
Hi Aleron, I found this article saying he took a pay cut from 21.16 to 9.65 in 2011/12 to stay with the Spurs. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...ck-half-san-antonio-spurs-161015938--nba.html

Hope Dwight realizes stars need to stick together after the okc loss. Even Durant needed help and he's the second best player in the league. Surely he knows a depleted nursing home lakers team won't get far due to injuries and a stupid coach. This is the last time he will have a chance to make a super team, the following year we have no idea what James and bosh do and then waiting any longer and hoping for a star to fall in your teams lap is just wishful thinking. This makes Atlanta scary because they can sign 2 max fa but they will need a wing sg sf. It's tough to win with only Dwight horford and Paul. The minimum guys would be playing too crucial of a roll at wing defense so I'm not sure who the hawks would eye in fa. Because Atlanta is under the cap they won't get a full mle just a 3 million that they would need to share on a few positions which can't possibly yield much talent. I think the clippers could somehow make room for Dwight by sending out Bledsoe, deandre and perhaps butler. Not sure if anyone just bites on just taking all that salary and giving the clippers a trade exception but who knows.
Lin doesn't have a load on him besides the hype that has been built up about him. Well now there is no hype but Dwight would really help everyone in this team.
Look, we all know we have been used for leverage by Dwight before. We all know Houston is not a glamor town. But this time is different. We are not sitting here dreaming that Dwight is our only hope. We know Harden can play at a top 10 super star level, we know Asik a good serviceable center, we know Parsons can play his role on a championship level, we know we have developable talent on the bench. We know we are up and comers that good players will want to join over the next few years. That's just vastly different that's where we were a year ago. We want Dwight, we would love to add him. But we are not going to have to blow up the team and start from scratch with no idea of how it's going this time. We are a playoff team looking to get better (thank you Mr. Morey, great job). So let's just sit back and enjoy it this time. If he comes here great, if he doesn't, we at least get to spend the Summer watching the Lakers sweat. I think in the end, Dwight's ego, the idea of being the centerpiece of the NBA's most visible and historic team will send him back to LA. Oh well.
Jason Kidd talked about leaving the Nets and ended up staying. Joe Johnson was heavily considering leaving the Bucks to join Lebron and ended up staying because of the money.
I think Dwight is going to wait and see all his options, and that gives us the ability to talk to him about all the possible endorsements we can hook him up with. Dont underestimate that... Howard only made 2.8 mil in endorsements in LA! This had to be disappointing for him. Plus the team was bad and old, the coach wasnt a fit. If he was playing on a young team that was over achieving and fun to watch this could only help his image. The more fun he is having to more likeable he is...the better his image is...the more endorsements their are. The Same thing with winning...its a cure all. Wade signed a major deal in china and he was much higher on the list at 11 mil. So china is already stepping it up in this area. We already have many contacts in china from yao..now Lin. He might be able to double his endorsement figure. I think this is an underestimated part of the process that we now have more information of. If we can show him he will make more money per year in the first 4 years (after tax cuts), and offer better endorsement possibilities. (also less tax) Plus the opportunity to not only to ADD HIM on a team that had the same record his did last year (which he should add another 5 wins) but is younger with more potential to develop...ANDDDD the ability to add another top player like Josh Smith (his best friend). Should be a no brainer! If Morey cant close Howard...he needs to hire me. I am in sales and I guarantee Id close this deal.
I remember T-Mac was having injury issues like Howard is having now before the Rockets traded for him. Some of you people never learn your lesson. History is to be learned from not repeated. But I guess you guys like having injured players on the team and Alexander likes paying them...
This nba is all about the superstars...its worth the risk. There is only 10-15 of these players in the entire league. With several on a couple of teams. If you are one of them then you have potential every year.
So you want Howard and Josh Smith....??? If Morey hires you I hope it's to clean toilets and not run the team...
I think Wade was making $10 mill per year from Nike when he signed with Li-Ning. And the report was they matched his contract AND gave him stock. I keep wondering if Dwight's small endorsement number for 2013 is perhaps due to his contract with Adidas expiring. Is there a chance that he went without a shoe endorsement this year and that Adidas is waiting for him to sign his free agent contract before they come to the table with a new deal for him? His endorsement income as reported in that article seems way too low. $2.4 million. If that is his Adidas contract and they are talking about doubling it if he lives in LA or Brooklyn.....it's still way too low. Especially when you compare it to DRose. Those numbers just don't jive for some reason.
Injury is a risk for any and every nba player. But in this league you take risks for superstars. Playing it safe with mediocre players gets you a mediocre team. This is about winning championships. Not putting together bottom tiered playoff teams. Even with the health issues of tmac/Yao, it was worth the risk given what they could have done. Without them there would have been no chance at the chip.
