Well let me save you some trouble. He can look good if you take a season's worth of plays and cut it to only 10 minutes of highlights (the same can also be said of Asik). And he can also look good when taking instructions from Hakeem and playing in an empty gym. But outside of that, his offense is not so hot. Now, of course, he is better than Asik. And he is one of the best scoring big men in the league, simply because the league has so few big men who can score. But he is no Duncan. And he will never have the smoothness and fluidity of Hakeem, so I don't know how beneficial Hakeem's pointers would be. In fact, since those workouts with Hakeem, Dwight hasn't really shown any improvement on offense. He's arguably been worse. If anything, he'd benefit from playing under McHale... but I don't think he will, simply because he hasn't improved on offense in a long time and shows no desire to. I don't want to sound too negative because I'd like to have him on our team. But to suggest he can be like Duncan, one of the most skilled and best disciplined big men of all time, is foolish.
Thanks for sharing your breakdown of Dwight. When I said that Dwight could mature like Duncan, I didn't mean his style of play - they are completely different. I meant I hoped he could have a long career, continue to develop, and still play at the highest level for a long time. Even Olajuwon had a long career. He won his championship in his 11th year. I hope spending time with Olajuwon will make Dwight understand the legacy his has to uphold if he comes to Houston. I may be foolish, but yes, I do think Dwight has the potential to be a Hall of Famer. I see raw talent and skill that needs to be focussed, and I think that coming to Houston and being mentored by two HOFs in the Dream and McHale and making a run for the championship with this gutsy young team could focus him.
Nearly 50% of Dwight offense comes from post iso, where his points per possession was at .73... Asik's is around .1 lower. Dwight is the best PnR big tho. Harden/Dwight PnR would be beast.
I agree 100%. Dwight just doesn't seem like the guy you want to build your team around, and the injuries are a huge concern for me also. If we go all in on Dwight and he turns out to be a dud, then it's going to be a long four years. I too would be more excited to see the Rockets get a star PF.
Well he was coming off major back surgery, that KINDA limits your atheletcism a bit, will be a while before he returns to 100% if at all
Its kinda funny how everyone throws the injury argument card in every Dwight/Asik conversation on here while completely ignoring, that Asik started to play BBall with 17 and had only 3 years on the Bulls bench before this one.. Btw I know that you didnt used that argument like that so its not against you Panda
Problem is everyone would understand that except for Dwight, who would want the ball in his hands 15 out of 24 seconds of every posession.
Better question: In terms of your thread making abilities: Are they past their prime, underdeveloped, in their prime, or you have no idea? Sorry to hate, but this is a stupid question to ask.
I know Howard is a great center but it really concerns me he has no offensive post game. Hes been in the league for a long time. He has never really shown improvement in that area.
i'd rather have a tim duncan in his mid 30s than dwight in his late 20s but beggars can't be choosers. but maury has made it to where we're no longer beggars.
I think he is slightly past his athletic prime and due to his inability (unwillingness?) to increase his skills I think it is safe to say he is past his prime as a player. I think his confidence is down too and now that he understands that winning a championship takes more than working his upper body in the gym, he doesn't care so much about getting a ring. He reminds me more and more of McGrady by the day.
I actually would have to consider DHo past his prime... Obviously he's had a few injuries which obviously take their toll. In most instances, with someone Dwight's age, his injuries wouldn't be that big a deal, since they would be offset by his experience... Normally, someone of D12's caliber (or even less) would have benefitted from his years of experience. Years honing one's craft and adding to his skillset... etc.. But, as DHo hasn't done that stuff...
