I saw that guys are disputing this. So let's take a poll I remember that Yao seldom missed games in his first couple years. Then suddenly in one season he injured his knee. What people said then - "no problem, Yao will return to his old form after he recovers from this injury". Yet, that NEVER happened to Yao. Since that first major injury, Yao's injury became a chronic problem. Yeah Yao is so special, so let's think another guy who is not so special: Amare Stoudemire. I think Dwight Howard will become the next Amare, except that Amare has a way much better shooting range and skill. Without explosion and physical talent, Amare could still do some contribution to the team, but Dwight would be a piece of junk.
I actually like to but I don't know how to add a poll in an existing thread. Let me know how to do it if you happen to know.
The guy has one injury ridden season and he is crucified. He got better as the year went on. He will return to form next season and we should revisit this thread in a year from now.
Wishful thinking. I remember that Yao seldom missed games in his first couple years. Without explosion and physical talent, Amare could still do some contribution to the team, but Dwight would be a piece of junk.
why? Lee you are so bad. I am just curious that people think Dwight could cruise through the injury and return to his old form. Think about what happened to Yao and esp. Amare, and you should realize that's wishful thinking. That's why I asked mod to add those couple lines in the opening post.
He is at his prime. He didnt want to play much this year but he did thanks to all the pressure he received from being on the lakers. I think he played through injuries and soft to not get injured.
Here's the most recent tape of Dwight's injury ridden 2012/13 season. He's obviously hobbled but if he can get healthy and even improve his post moves with Hakeem this off-season, he may get better still. Only 27 y.o. He might mature like Duncan... <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/TYO8Bawzmzg?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Have you ever seen Tim Duncan or Dwight Howard play? As for this thread, it seems unnecessary. But I'll play along. Dwight is either just past his prime or still in it. Next year should enlighten us about where he's at, but if I had to choose I'd say his prime was a few years ago. But even in his post-prime years, he'll still be one of - if not the - best center(s) in the NBA. So that's good enough for me.
Tim Duncan was light years ahead of Howard at 27. Hell I think Duncan is a better all around player even today. You used this video in the other thread to highlight Howard's "post moves and dribble drives". But this clearly shows my point. He is not a go to guy. 90% of this video is Howard scoring 2 feet from the basket. And 95% of those dunks were set up by another player. Like I said, he is not a dominant back to the basket player. You can't run a championship offense through him. He's just not that guy you can pass the ball to 12ft away, space the floor, and tell him to go to work every possession. I'm sorry. He is a great player. Not one I'd build my franchise around. Being a featured player on offense, he should have improved a lot more in 9 years. He hasn't. Hasn't developed a midrange shot. Hasn't developed his ball handling.
There is hope. This video was originally posted by TJ VS TR. You can see the new moves he added this last season. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mArHU1ewSog?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I just don't think Dwight has it upstairs, he is just not that guy that HAS to win, and seems more concerned with being famous than being good at basketball. I honestly would rather get a star PF, and roll with Asik at the Center spot. DD
Actually I saw Robinson and Duncan from around the 7th row side floor around 99 or 00. I think Avery Johnson was running the point then with Sean Elliot on the wing. But to be honest I've only seen Howard in the odd game on TV and only started watching serious tape on him recently. He looks good. I think Hakeem can help him take his game to the next level.
