So, he basically pointed out that his constituent is an effing idiot? Because only an effing idiot would think that allowing gays to marry = forcing straight people to marry gay people.

Don't worry Michele Bachmann doesn't dissapoint.

Michele Bachmann: 'We Need To Focus' On 'Spiritual Warfare,' To Fight Gay Marriage, Satan

Christian conservatives must turn to "spiritual warfare" to fight against the powers of Satan, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) told an audience at a speech in April.

During an appearance at the evangelical Liberty Counsel's Awakening 2013 captured by Right Wing Watch, Bachmann urged attendees to keep up the fight against gay marriage, abortion and "Islamic jihad," claiming that God supported those campaigns. She then took a line from the Bible's book of Ephesians to suggest that these battles are supernatural struggles against the forces of evil.

"Because we need to recognize the desperate situation of our condition, not only in the natural but also in the supernatural," she said. "Because as the scripture was read from the pulpit at Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, we fight not against this world, we fight against the powers and principalities and 'Prince of the Air'; that’s where we need to focus as well, is on spiritual warfare…"

In Ephesians 2:2, Satan is referred to as "prince of the power of the air."

(Watch the clip above, via Right Wing Watch.)

Bachmann's reference to Ephesians came after Thatcher's granddaughter, 19-year-old Amanda Thatcher, cited the Biblical passage during the former prime minister's funeral in April.

Bachmann often invokes religious rhetoric in her calls to action. Last week, she suggested that 9/11 and the attack in Benghazi, Libya, 11 years later were God's "judgment," making a call for people to join her in a Sept. 11 "Day of Prayer and Fasting" later this year.

The 9/11 event, organized by right-wing outlet World Net Daily, has drawn some high-profile backers. Action-movie star Chuck Norris recently signed on to the event, saying that he believed the event's goal of "cranking up our spiritual warfare" was necessary.

Yeah, sometimes security council resolutions and economic sanctions just won't do the trick... like when you are fighting Satan.

Tonight Michele Marie Bachmann weeps for America (and calls for some kind of god war).

    thumbs up MN!

I'll be so glad when this sort of news gets a collective shrug from the electorate, and the reaction is more along the lines of, "You mean there's still a state that hasn't passed this yet? Have they been living under a rock??"

It's weird to think that this woman actually, at one point, regardless of her chances, was a candidate to be President.

Don't worry that is exactly what we think in the Netherlands:grin:. Don't worry it will not take long for the US (and many other countries) to finally evolve enough (pun intended).

Was at the public signing ceremony for the bill yesterday. There were a few thousand people out there for it.

I agree that at some point things like this will just elicit a shrug but for now this is history in the making. MN was the first state to defeat a referendum on outlawing same sex marriage and just 7 months is the first state outside of the East Coast to legalize same sex marriage through legislation. Remember it was fairly recent that opponents of same sex marriage where arguing that every referendum for same sex marriage was defeated and the only way it was going to be implement was through activist judges.

After Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton (D) signed a bill on Tuesday making it the latest state to legalize same-sex marriage, one of the busiest bridges in Minneapolis was illuminated to celebrate the new law.

Yes, we're finally catching up with the Netherlands, at least in some respects, although we have a very long way to go, arno_ed. I think I've told you before that I love your country and have been there many times. My significant other's mother was born in the Netherlands and came to the US in the 1930's on the French ocean liner Normandie, and we have numerous relatives there (or rather my S.O. does). You live in one of the finest little crowded countries on the planet, IMO. We may end up living there someday, if we manage to get our two kids out of school. At least our oldest is graduating this month from college. Progress!

That's far out, mc mark! A great image illustrating the state, and the country, moving forward.

The netherlands have been slippinng on many progressive sissues the last couple of governments (how I hate the CDA, a dutch political party).Even our soft drugs policies are not going in the right direction. Still it is a great country to live in.

Yeah I remember you telling me that. If you ever visit the Netherlands let me know we can have a beer (or something else since I do not drink alcohol ). Were do those relatives live in the netherlands?

Congrats on the graduation of your oldest. My child is only 5 months old so graduation is still far into the future

Random fact. That bridge in McMark's pic is the replacement for the bridge that collapsed in 2007.
