people seem to forget that Conley in his first few years in the NBA was just considered the guy who threw passes to Oden in OSU and piggybacked of his success in the college ranks to be a lottery pick

    Lin

No they are not close, but I understand where the OP is coming from because Conley was terrible and was doubted his first couple of years

Lol what? He still had one of the best stretches ever as a first time starter, and I would have watched it if he was black, white, or purple.

The great filter of intelligence and sensibility of posters in Clutchfans are the threads about Jeremy Lin.

In threads like this, one can clearly see which posters have plenty of grey matter in their skulls and uses them wisely, which posters have plenty of grey matter in their skulls and do not use them at all (or improperly at best), and which posters have no grey matter at all (god knows what they use for their thinking then).

Not to mention many of the posts in Jeremy Lin threads are also perfect for "dumb down" type entertainment on a dreary Tuesday night. Gets more laughs and smh moments then the Kardashians

It would be nice if JLin turned out as good as Mike Conley but everyone knew Mike Conley had lots of potential. That's why he was the number 4 over all pick... Plus he comes from a family of gifted athletes (Mike Conley Sr. was an olympic gold medalist).

Lin sucks because he was undrafted.

Lin was undrafted because he sucks.

    That's brilliant reasoning there.

Interesting points made by the OP, I didn't think to measure one with the other.

However, it's not exactly an equal comparison because of the teams differing philosophies and gameplay. In a free-flowing guard-heavy offense, Lin gets more opportunities than Conley would in a slow it down, inside-out team like Memphis. Memphis starts practically every possession by posting it up to their elite front line and then getting their perimeter players involved. Naturally, if Gasol and/or Randolph get it going for the game, then Conley is going to get a lot more opportunities at good looks.

Jeremy has improved a lot since the beginning of the season, but he should be putting up better numbers than conley simply because of the system. FWIW, Conley is just an above average point guard in this league and I'm sure Lin is setting his sights higher than that.

If Lin weren't Asian, chances are good that he would've been given a fair shot and at least drafted by a decent basketball school. There, he would've succeeded or failed on equal footing, so there wouldn't have been the whole underdog story.

Exactly. $8 mil is pretty baseline for non-rookie starter PGs, except for those who nearly threw away their careers with a terrible year (i.e. Raymond Felton).

That's reaching. Lin isn't the first player to go un-drafted and then make a splash in the NBA. John Starks, Avery Johnson and Brad Miller were all overlooked in the draft. Starks even made it big in NY in the 90s. Lin made a bigger splash when he had the chance, true. But to claim that race had no factor in his fame is like saying race had no factor in his being overlooked in HS and college. You can't play both sides,

Excellent post...but honestly its a waste of time to try and make most of these people understand this. It was lins first year. But because he did so well year 1 (and more likely because he is asian and a christian) He gets hate for not living up to OBSCENE expectations.

These are the same people that whined when we traded rafer for lowry, and traded for a 6th man in harden that couldnt evne start for OKS

I bet you anything you do a search its the same exact people.

There are more examples then just conley there is lowry's story too. Point is this was basically Lins rookie year. He showed moments of brilliance (21 pts and 7 a with harden out) doing what he did while learning how to do something he never has before PLAYING OFF THE BALL. After half a season where he was coming off MAJOR KNEE INJURY, first year starting, learning to play out of his comfort zone, on a team he had 0 experience with.... He ended up being average.

Give me his results and us making the playoffs under those conditions any time.

But I agree with you that he has the drive and work ethic that will allow him to not only improve but be elite one day. Best thing his greatest attribute is BBIQ like nash that will help him get through everything else...and be good for a LONG time.

Heres to us real rockets fans who are pulling for the guy, and believing in morey.

Well you should've expected it, because you're trying to compare a guy that most people thought was the reason we lost our playoff series to a guy who was a top 5 pick and is now playing like one.

Side Note: Why does everyone who says one bad word about Jeremy Lin (who is definitely an avg. PG at best) have to be a LOH? Are you a LOF (LeBron Only Fan) if you say he's the best in the world? Are you a KDOF (Kevin Durant Only Fan) if you say he's one of the best shooters in the NBA? Are you a James Harden hater if you say he ISO's too much? If not then why does it only apply to Lin? I don't think he's that good, there are AT LEAST 10 other PG's I would rather have than him, but that doesn't mean I'm a LOH, it just means I'm a realist....

There are 10 pgs I'd take over Conley, probably 13-14 i'd take over lin, that is if my goal is to do as well as possible in 2013-14
