So when are the people going to line up to start bashing Berkman and boycotting Astros games for him taking a stance on someone taking a stance?
I'm going to burn my Astros t-shirt now. I can't believe he's so arrogant as to think people care about his opinions!!!!!!11@ I'm growing really tired of this whole double standard.
Good god, dude. He was asked questions. He answered. How can you blaim him for supplying his opinion when he was freaking asked for it? And as to your earlier statement. The reason no one is jumping on Lance for taking a stance on someone taking a stance is because maybe, just maybe, we agree with Lance's stance. Berkman didn't say he thought the Dixie Chick in question shouldn't have been allowed to say what she said...he just thought it was a terrible thing to say. There is no double standard.
I've heard people say they don't care what celebrities have to say. Not that they disagreed with them, just that they don't care. Of course, I don't hear anyone saying it now.
So you have to be asked for it not to be controversial? I see, it all makes sense now. And if you agree with Lance and his balls aren't getting jumped on for this, then you have proven my point for me about a double standard.
This is why I don't by my 'Stros gear with any names . Berkman is still the man though. I hope he learns a little tolerence, I mean even saying "I don't want to shoot them" is kind of funky. I would have gotten that impression by him not mentioning a firing squad at all. I want to here what Ausmus thinks, he's the smartest guy on the team and the only one who really follows news and politics. This is according to an article on the Astros website, I didn't just pull it out of my ass.
I often care, and like plenty of others, I support those who agree with me and, if I think the opinions too overboard, I will actively speak out (and use whatever economic clout I have) against those who disagree with me. That's my right. Though I've not said it, if I were advising some celebrities, I would probably tell them to keep their mouths shut in regards to opinions that could be opposed by a significant percentage of the population because it can hurt that person's career. And I guess if I were saying that so-and-so should just shut up, that would be where I was coming from.
Uh, so did heypartner. I think we'll agree that the fact that someone went to Rice doesn't make you smart.
That's fine. I just don't like the hypocrisy of someone saying they don't care what celebrities have to say when they profess an opinion that's different from their's, but are quiet when a celebrity carries a similar opinion. That'd be like me saying that Lance Berkman is no longer my favorite player the same day that I think that these Dixie Chick boycotting idiots are, well, idiotic.
Of course there is a double standard when you say something negative against the president of the United States compared to the Dixie Chicks. Who cares about the Dixie Chicks anyway.
Well, I agree with you there. I know this has been said before, but I would add to that those who say that so-and-so should just keep quiet with their opinions when they differ from their own and then don't say those who agree should keep quiet. Along the same lines as what you're saying, but said slightly differently so it looks like I've added more to the conversation than I really have.
My take: dissent doesn't necessarily mean disloyalty. Both Natalie and Lance are proud Americans and I wouldn't boycott either of them (though, I don't have a Chicks CD). They were just being American. I almost think Nat was playing to the crowd, like "London rocks" or whatever. Feeding on the sentiment? Regardless, I don't resent Maynes or Berkman (especially Lance) one bit. He was asked, he answered the question, and apparently some of you don't like the answer.
True. I guess if we used Heyp as a stereotype, we would think that Rice alums were incorrigible rabble-rousers.
