I absolutely despise Dwight Howard. In fact, I instantly hated him in his rookie season when everybody else seemed to think he was a lovable giant. I used to say he was a poor mans Shawn Kemp.

And do you know what? I'll still be absolutely elated if we sign him. I don't even see how there is an argument against it. Sure, there is a chance he never returns to his former self. There is a chance this is just the start of his decline. But, realistically, we're only going to be able to add one more max salary guy. With that being the case, the question becomes this:

Is there a single realistically obtainable player in the league who can potentially put us on the same tier as the Thunder and the Heat in the next four years other than Dwight Howard?

I'm pretty certain the answer is no. And if that's the case, why wouldn't we go all in for Dwight? If it doesn't work, then in a few years we try to trade him, or, worst case, let his deal expire in 4 years and move on to the next possibility. But, in my mind, our ONLY hope for competing for a title in the next four years is adding Dwight Howard and praying he returns to full strength (or even finally polishes his post game and becomes even more dominant).

This isn't baseball. This isn't football.

This is the NBA...where chemistry is overrated. The Chicago Bulls without Michael Jordan had more chemistry than with him.

You know what creates "chemistry"? Winning the whole *****ing thing.

I agree as well....I don't like D12. Bothers me to no end that he's actual the best center in the league by far. I think he's mentally weak and limited skill wise. But none the less he's the best at his position and thus deserving of a max contract and if we have a chance at signing him without giving up assets it's a no brainer. You do it 100% of the time.

If we kept Asik, signed someone like Milsap, and improved our bench, that still wouldn't make us contenders. Why would you want to be stuck at mediocrity / first round exit territory?

Howard is a top 5 player in the nba when healthy. Why does everyone seem to forget the fact that he was playing injured the whole year and came back 4 months early?

I stumbled upon this thread on reddit. It was listed under "8 star threads". I definitely agree!

In all seriousness though, it would be absolutely stupid not to sign Dwight if the opportunity presents itself. He is head and shoulders ahead of Asik on a bad day and that is just a fact. And in terms of Howard being all the way past his prime, maybe so (I don't agree), but he's only a year older than Asik so it's hard to see that being a valid argument to not sign him. Whether you like him or not, I guarantee you will like seeing one of these:

When you have a chance to get the best center in the league you do it. You could argue Marc Gasol is better now but when health Dwight is the best hands down. Even injured he might still be the best. Morey would get fired if he didn't even try to get Dwight.

Say NO to that Ho! He is proven a loser everywhere he goes... he only gets by with raw athleticism and after all these injury. His advantage is gone and just look at Lakers this year... he couldn't do shxt to get anywhere with the top pg and pf in the league.

Why would all those fans want him is totally beyond me... he is absolutely overhyped. I take Asik any day over him... at least Asik proved he can improve on his weaknesses. Asik also works better with team chemistry too. D.Ho doesn't care about the team.

I guess I just don't see what all Howard would really add (statistically) to our team that can't be accomplished by improving at our forward positions where we have no proven options outside of Chandler Parsons and would be worth all the trouble he would bring to our team's image and chemistry.

At most, statistically, Howard just adds an extra 8 points per game. Is there really no where we can go to get that from our vacant forward position and would those extra 8 points per game really be worth all the trouble he would bring to our team's image and chemistry?

The baggage would probably override the additional contribution he would bring to our team and we'd be paying a ton of money for that to happen.

So I have to agree that we shouldn't go after Howard.

Watch Memphis play OKC, watch how when Conley beats his man, he meanders straight to the hoop because OKC's interior defenders don't want to come off their man.

Now watch James Harden do the same thing, watch how they all descend on him like vultures attacking a corpse.

If you replace Asik with Dwight, the former starts happening rather than the latter.

Didn't we just go through that same process with Yao Ming? It took us 8 years from the time of Yao's 1st injury to get back to this point of a bright future. Dwight isn't our only option. Besides, he shoots 40% fts. Ok, maybe Asik can show him how to make clutch fts! I also realize that Morey's going after him no matter what I think & if Howard becomes a Rocket, I'll happily cheer for him as such.

I just think there's healthier options available for our future NBA finals future. Love, Jefferson, Milsap & CP3 for example.
